In a coordinated raid in Nonthaburi province, authorities seized over 100 unlicensed Labubu dolls and Art toys, collectively valued at over 100,000 baht. The Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) and the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) conducted the operation following complaints about fraudulent sales and counterfeit products causing public distress.

The CPPD received numerous complaints from citizens about the rampant deceptive selling of the Labubu dolls, involving issues such as non-delivery of paid products, receipt of counterfeit items, and overpriced sales.

The CPPD, in collaboration with TISI, mobilised operational teams to investigate and raid 11 rental shops within a shopping mall in Nontha Buri province. The search yielded approximately 100 dolls lacking the Thai Industrial Standard (TIS) certification, with the seized items estimated to be worth around 100,000 baht.

Following the seizure, the investigation officers from CPPD’s 3rd Sub-Division are proceeding with legal actions and expanding the search to identify the owners for prosecution, reported Sanook.

The charges include manufacturing or importing industrial products without the required standard certification for sale within the kingdom, punishable by up to two years imprisonment or a fine not exceeding two million baht, or both.

Additionally, selling or possessing for sale industrial products without the appropriate authorisation carries a penalty of up to six months imprisonment, a fine not exceeding 500,000 baht, or both.

The crackdown highlights ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to combat consumer fraud and protect intellectual property rights. The operation also serves as a warning to vendors and manufacturers about the legal consequences of flouting industrial standards and exploiting consumers.

The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or fraudulent activities to the authorities to ensure a fair and safe marketplace.
