There is a common proverb in our society, “The crying child gets the feed”. In the Internet era, the calls of metros are heard loud and clear. When it comes to towns and villages and particularly when telecommunication infrastructures are broken, the cries for support are unheard. The human tendency is always that when sounds are unheard, we presume that the things are all okay. Even the Government presumes so, until proven otherwise. Cauvery Delta Region that has been critically hit by the KAJA cyclone has been crying for support for last 5 days. Unfortunately, it has not got the deserved attention.

The region being largely agrarian society has been one among the top rice-producing belt of the nation. It is the top coconut-producing region of the nation. On the night of 16th November, cyclone Gaja has taken the life of the region. The state government’s active pre-cautionary measures have saved several thousands of human life. Unexpectedly, thousands of livestock’s have died. Millions of coconut trees are uprooted and multi-millions of other trees are uprooted. Estimates on damages are pouring in. It shall be beyond imagination and cannot be compensated, forever.

The livelihoods of the people are destroyed. Differences of rich and poor, caste and creed are grounded. All have suddenly become humans, simply searching for future. Nature has left a deep scar on the society, which may take decades to heal.

The economic disaster of this region cannot be computed. A steady income through coconut harvesting for years to come can never be computed accurately. It is the economic backbone of the region. All allied business in the region is around this coconut cultivation. To reinstate the same condition as prior to the cyclone, may take minimum 10 years. What will the nation do to rehabilitate this region? Will at least the national media take it to the attention of the Indian government and its generous public?

Time and again nature, challenges mankind, only the strong and wilful fight back. As united citizens, we will fight back.
