Fresh Clash And Police Lathicharge In Bhatpara After Return Of BJP Delegation

Fresh tensions broke Saturday between workers of ruling Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal’s trouble-hit Bhatpara following visits of a three-member Bjp Delegation led by former Union Minister SS Ahluwalia.

Stones and crude bombs were hurled immediately after the saffron delegation left Bhatpara by workers of both the parties on each other. Several persons were injured.

To disperse the mob police had to resort to lathi-charge. Section 144 is in force in the area.

Later a route march was conducted by Barrackpore Police Commissioner Manoj Verma with a huge police contingent.

He said, “The situation is completely under control. We are keeping a close watch on the situation.”

On Thursday two people were killed in a clash between the two suspected groups. Eleven others were injured. Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure was thereafter enforced in Bhatpara, the area in North 24 Parganas that has witnessed frequent fights between BJP and TMC workers for the past two months, pre-election and post-election.

Mamata Banerjee earlier accused BJP and centre of engineering violence in the state to topple her government. Saffron, however, dismissed the charge.

Late May TMC chief asked party leaders to recapture their offices which were alleged to have occupied by BJP.

After losing significant grounds in the Lok Sabha elections Mamata Banerjee has extended core committee. She appointed her brother Kartik Banerjee as president of party’s frontal Jai Hind Bahini. State minister Bratya Basu has been appointed as chairman of it.

She appointed MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar as chairman of another frontal organization Banga Janani Bahini.
