Pranab Mukherjee’s speech in Nagpur at RSS headquarters. Former President of India and a veteran member of Congress, Pranab Mukherjee has attended as the chief guest at the convocation ceremony of Rashtriya  Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Pranab Mukherjee shared the platform with the RSS chief Mr Mohan Bhagwat including various other members. There were more than 700 swayamsevak members in the convocation event and Mr Mukherjee addressed all of them on Indian nationalism.

On attending the event, the Congress leaders were feeling very uneasy. Former President of Congress Sonia Gandhi said that the Congress members did not expect Pranab Mukherjee to visit the RSS event before the Nagpur event.

The deputy leader of the opposition party of Rajya Sabha, Anand Sharma tweeted, “The images of Pranab Da, veteran leader and ideologue, at RSS headquarters have anguished millions of Congress workers and all those who believe in pluralism, diversity and foundational values of the Indian Republic. Dialogue can only be with those who are willing to listen, absorb and change. There is nothing to suggest that RSS has moved away from its core agenda as it seeks legitimacy.”

Whereas Pranab Mukherjee said in his speech that the country believes in collective conscience and also believes in celebrating unity in diversity. India’s main strength is its tolerating power. Intolerance will only dilute the nation’s identity.

Whereas the soul of India lies in pluralism and tolerance. Inclusion and secularism is just a matter of faith for each and every Indian citizen.

Pranab Mukherjee while delivering his speech has remembered Gandhiji by saying,”As Gandhiji explained, Indian nationalism was not exclusive, was not destructive. Pandit Nehru said, Indian nationalism only comes from a congregation of Hindus, Muslims and all other religions.”

He further said that Indian nationalism is and was all of the above religion, political and regional inclination. It happened before independence and is still continuing in the country. For every Indian, democracy is not just a gift but a sacred task.

Pranab Mukherjee completed his speech by saying that it fascinates and surprises him how 122 languages, seven major religions, three major ethnic groups, 1600 dialects live under one constitution by forming a single identity which is called as Bharatiya.

Whereas all the Congress members were very unsatisfied with him by saying that how a person can turn his back on his five decades and shake his hands with the rival party whom he had once accused because of the involvement in terror activities.

But Mukherjee was also not wrong in his point because of an outfit Congress has all through treated as untouchable.
