Virat Kohli is the only Indian in latest Forbes’ Highest-paid Athletes List

Virat Kohli is the only Indian in latest Forbes’ Highest-paid Athletes List: The cricket captain of team India named Virat Kohli is recorded among the world’s highest-paid athletes as per the Forbes’ magazine.

However, football legend Lionel Messi and American boxing champion Floyd Mayweather head the charts in the list of the world’s highest-paid athletes according to Forbes. Kohli is the only Indian sportsman from India to be featured in the Forbes’ list. Kohli is ranked 83rd  in the list and his earning is $24 million.

As per the list, the top 100 athletes belong from a total 22 countries and they come from 11 different sporting discipline. Among the top 5 sportsmen in Forbes’ list, Lionel Messi comes in the second number. Lionel Messi is another football legend who is followed by Christiano Ronaldo, mixed martial arts champion Conor McGregor and Brazilian footballer Neymar.

But the surprising thing is that no women are featured in this year in the Forbes’list. According to the Forbes officials, “Virat Kohli, who is just 29-year-old, is not just cricket-crazy India’s biggest name but is also one of the most popular athletes in the world, boasting more Twitter follower (25 million-plus) than all but three active sports stars.”

Whereas, the 41-year-old athlete, Mayweather who topped the list has yearly earning of $285 million. Forbes official said, “Yet like the Indian cricket mega-stars who have come before him, Kohli’s big payday comes off the pitch where he partnered with top brands such as Puma, Pepsi, Audi and Oakley.”

Virat Kohli is the only Indian cricketer who makes the cut and is placed 83 on the list. He earns the salary of $4 million and $20 million as the brand endorsements. But interestingly, the top-100 paid athletes are all men and there is no single woman on the list.

Former sprint king Usain Bolt is now on number 45 on the list whereas tennis player Roger Federer is on number 7. His rival Rafael Nadal completes the top-20 list by occupying the 20th spot.

As per the Forbes’ website, the earning figures of the athletes include their salaries and bonuses which they have earned between 1st June 2017 and 1st June 2018. Endorsement incomes are an estimate of appearance fees, sponsorship deals and licensing income for the 12 months through 1st June based on the agreements with the dealers.

Here is the top-20 list as per the Forbes’: Floyd Mayweather, Lionel Messi, Christiano Ronaldo, Conor McGregor, Neymar, LeBron James, Roger Federer, Stephen Curry, Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford, Kevin Durant, Lewis Hamilton, Russel Westbrook, James Harden, Canelo Alvarez, Tiger Woods, Drew Brees, Sebastian Vettel, Derek Carr and Rafael Nadal.
