Orchid named after Prime Minister Modi in Singapore

A beautiful Orchid was named after Prime Minister Modi to mark his presence in the National Orchid Garden of Singapore today. Narendra Modi was there in a three-day-visit. The name of the particular orchid was kept as “Dendrobium Narendra Modi”

The External Affairs Ministry Spokesman tweeted, “Dendrobium Narendra Modi- an orchid named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of his visit to the National Orchid Garden in Singapore.” He further tweeted that the particular orchid garden is up to 38 cm long with 14-20 well-arranged flowers. It is the strong and robust tropical orchid which produces upright inflorescences.

The sepals of the orchids are reddish brown whereas the petals of the orchids are twisted and distinguished which is lined with a very fine margin. The orchids are beautifully structured with an enchanting purple petal.

Prime Minister also visited several places among which he first visited the country’s oldest Hindu temple. The name of the temple is Sri Mariamman and also joined the morning prayers.

The External Affairs Ministry Spokesman further tweeted’ “Reinforcing our strong cultural connect, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Mariamman Temple.”

The Mariamman Temple was built in the year 1827. The purpose of building the temple was for the worship by immigrants from the Nagapatnam and Cuddalore districts of South India. The temple is situated in the middle of China town and it is dedicated to the Goddess Mariamman. Goddess Mariamman is known for her power in curing illnesses, epidemic diseases and various other diseases.

On his visit to Singapore, PM Modi had a very busy schedule. In Singapore, he first met the former prime minister of Singapore Goh Chok Tong. After his meeting with the former prime minister, he went to Clifford Pier. There he unveiled the plaque of Mahatma Gandhi. While unveiling he meet there with many other government officials. Prime Minister further met with the US Defence Minister. Prime Minister Modi has various other plans as well. Modi will further visit the Indian Heritage Culture Centre in Little India district. He will also visit the Changi Naval Base where he will be boarding  Indian Navy’s Shivalik stealth frigate INS Satpura.

Prime Minister has further discussion about India’s friendship with China in Singapore. He said’ “Asia will have a better future if India, China work together.” He further said’ “No other relationship of India has as many layers as our relations with China. We are world’s most populous countries and among the fastest growing economies.”
