Ujjwala Yojana is inspired by Premchand’s Hamid from a Nobel Idgaah. More than two years have passed since the foundation of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh. This scheme aims at providing Lpg Connections to below poverty line sections, has been cited by the prime minister to publicise the government’s effort towards removing poverty.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that Munshi Premchand’s famous Nobel Idgaah inspired him a lot to launch the Ujjwala Scheme. Under this scheme around four crores below poverty line families have already got free LPG connections since its launch from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh in the year 2016.

Narendra Modi said, ” If Hamid can do it for his grandmother, why can’t a prime minister do it?” He even narrated the whole story of Hamid of Idgah. Hamid bought a tong from Idgaah mela to save his granny’s hands from burning while cooking. Narendra Modi also did video chatting with many women fro the economically weaker sections through the NaMo app. Prime Minister referred Munshi Premchand’s 1933 story to showcase the importance of easing lives of the women.

He added that Ujjwala scheme has provided better health benefits, freedom from the poisonous smoke which can cause cancer and cleaner fuel.  He further said, “Premchand’s Idgah touched me deeply and gives strength to our resolve of providing gas connections to every family.”

He added that women are having better opportunities than before to earn extra money. This is because of the time of cooking has been reduced. BJP has provided more than 10 Crores Lpg Connections to the households in the period of four years. This task has never been accomplished by the previous governments. Approx four crores LPG connections have been received by the rural families so far.

And nearly ten crores new LPG connections have been provided in four years since 2014, as compared to the 13 cores in nearly seven decades from 1955 to 2014. Modi said about the scheme’ “Over 69% villages in India now have  100% LPG penetration, while 81% villages have more than 75% LPG penetration.” It is the most popular scheme launched by the NDA Government.

Modi added that previous government didn’t even think of the rural masses.  due to which common people were bereft of LPG facility for decades. The government said that there is no middleman included in the scheme and the beneficiaries are chosen from the transparent procedure. Around ten lakh people viewed the interaction on various social media platform, among which NaMo app is widely famous.
