Gangs arrested by CID for IPL betting in Assam

The Indian Premier League, i.e., IPL – India’s expensive sports tournament has turned into a disaster now due to IPL Betting. It has become a headache for the police. The sports event is in the final stage now. With this, there has been a rise in the illegal activities like betting. There was a sting operation held in Assam by CID which has helped them to nab two persons from the capital city of Assam.

As mentioned by the CID officials, a person named Ajit Tiwari who resides in Noonmati was Arrested for running a betting racket. After the sting operation, the CID further raided different locations of the city and arrested his counterpart of the same betting racket named Tony Agarwal who stays at Fancy Bazaar, Guwahati. The officials also mentioned that two culprits named Alok Jain and Prasanta Deb are currently missing.

Illegal betting has been taking place in cricket for many years. However, a gang involvement is very common in these type of illegal activities all over the world. India is well known for these type of betting activities particularly in the game called cricket. Such scandals take place every now and then and recently Assam has been in the news for this act.

A few days ago, Deputy Superintendent of Nagaon police named Samiran Baishya stated that a sudden raid was done at a hotel in Senchowa area of Nagaon. Based on the investigation a betting racket was caught and fortunately, 13 gamblers were arrested. A large number of cash along with a television set were recovered from the betting gang. The investigation is still under the process.

Whereas last night two persons were arrested for betting on IPL at their residence which is situated in Natabari village of Dhubri district. The culprits have been identified as Azgar Ali who is 38 years old along with his counterpart Hasen Ali Sk. Whereas the other culprits have been identified as Kishore Saha and Suklal Saha, residents of Dhubri district.

A case has been registered regarding this illegal activity in relevant sections under the Gambling Act in Dhubri at Tamarhat Police Station and the culprits arrested has been taken into the judicial custody.

Hence, the joint operation and raid including the local police of Gauripur police station and Tamarhat police station successfully operated the investigation and busted the gang. State police have successfully busted at least seven betting rackets and arrested nineteen persons so far as mentioned by the CID officials.
