Mega Star Amitabh Bachchan conferred with ‘Indian Film Personality of the Year’ at the closing ceremony of IFFI Goa 2017 on Tuesday in Goa. Before conferring the award to him Akshay Kumar gave an emotional yet comical speech about the effect of Amitabh Bachchan on his life.

Addressing the crowd and Amitabh Bachchan who were present at the closing ceremony of IFFI 2017, Akshay said, “Today, I want to share that how his personality affects a common man like me. I remember when I was 12-13 years old in the 1980s, I visited Kashmir with my parents for vacation and in Kashmir, sir was shooting for his film. I was watching his shoot so my father told me to take his autograph so I went up to him and he was eating grapes at that time so I requested him to give me an autograph but while he was giving me autograph, my eyes were on the grapes that he was eating. I wanted to have those grapes in between that one of grapes fell down so while he was writing, I bent down and took that grape and he noticed that but pretended that he didn’t say it and with his autograph, he gave a bunch of grapes.”

“I want to say that those grapes were sour but for a child like me, it was like getting a chocolate box from him. I ate those grapes and it digested as well but the essence of it is still with me. That gesture, that learning from him, I remembered all my life. I didn’t know that one day I will work in the film industry and a similar incident happened with me when I was shooting for my film ‘Keemat’, where people were not allowing a kid to be on a film set so I went up to that kid when he was crying. I talked with him and gave him autograph and today that kid has turned out to be the Ranveer Singh so the kind of effect sir has on my life be it punctuality or acting.. not much of acting.  I still have to learn acting but sir I am still trying.”

On a funny note, Akshay added that “Sir’s each advice I keep with myself. And because of your advice, I have been to Gujarat for 10 times because he always urges people “Aao Mhara Gujarat Ma’ (Amitabh Bachchan is the brand ambassador of tourism of Gujarat state) so I always followed that.”

“A super comic book has been based on him called him named ‘Supremo’. I read that book. I feel if America has Superman, Batman and Spiderman then in India we have our very own ‘Angry Young Man’. He has done lot of films with me and other actors where he played role of father so today I want to officially say that you are the father of our industry and we have learned so much from him so on behalf of entire industry I would love to touch your feet”

Then, Akshay in his usual manner jumped from the stage in his three-piece suit, hugged and touched feet of Amitabh Bachchan amidst huge cheer from the crowd and entire stadium including both of them got emotional by Akshay Kumar’s solid gesture.

Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parrikar, Textiles and Information & Broadcasting minister of India Smriti Irani, Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Matin Rey Tango, Zaira Wasim, Sonali Bendre, Karan Johar, Sushant Singh Rajput, Huma Qureshi and Bhumi Pednekar were present at the closing ceremony of IFFI Goa 2017.
