Crew member killed, 2 pilots injured in Helicopter crash in Badrinath.

A Helicopter carrying pilgrims from Badrinath to Haridwar crashed on Saturday, killing a crew member.

The helicopter met with an accident while taking off from the Himalayan shrine of Badrinath in Uttarakhand. All the five passengers were safe, according to the reports.

“An engineer, who was part of the crew, died in the accident, while the two pilots suffered injuries,” said an official at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in Delhi.

Chamoli Superintendent of Police Tripti Bhatt told PTI that the helicopter got imbalanced while taking off due to insufficient air pressure and fell down.

All the pilgrims were from Vadodara in Gujarat. The crew member who died, an engineer, was identified as Vikram Lamba, who hailed from Assam. He was hit by rotor blades, the police officer added.

The Augusta 119 helicopter, belonging to Mumbai-based private operator Krestal Aviation was on its way to Haridwar with eight passengers on board.

The DGCA said it will probe the crash and a team would be sent to the accident site.
