Correction of core sector, up 3.6% in May

Core sector data are showing signs of improvement in the economy. Growth in Core Sector growth has been recorded in May. Growth of core sector has increased to 3.6 percent in May. The core sector growth in April was 2.8 per cent.

Electricity production has increased in the month of May. Electricity Production in May increased from 5.4 percent to 6.4 percent on a month-on-month basis. There is also an increase in the production of cement. Production of cement increased to 1.8 per cent from -2.4 per cent in May on a monthly basis. However, there is a decline in steel production. On a month-on-month basis, steel production in May dropped from 9.3 per cent to 3.7 per cent.

On a month-on-month basis, the production of fertilisers in May decreased from 6.2 per cent to -6.5 per cent. However, on the basis of month-on-month basis, the production of refinery products increased from 0.2 percent to 5.4 percent in May. Apart from this, the production of natural gas increased from 2% to 4.5% in May on a monthly basis. Crude oil production has increased from 0.7% to 0.7% in May on a month-to-month basis. On a month-to-month basis, production of coal in May was 3.3 per cent without change.
