Benchmark indices settled the trading Tuesday on higher note. The BSE Sensex settled the day at 28,761, up 100 points, while the broader Nifty-50 ended at 8,908, up 29 points. In the broader markets, the BSE Midcap and the BSE Smallcap indices outperformed the frontline indices to rise 0.5% and 0.4%, respectively. An up-move to a great extent was triggered in last hour of trade. Cement stocks witnessed mixed trend. 

Axis Bank, Asian Paints and RIL were the top gainers, while Bharti Airtel down 3.8% TCS down 1.7% making them top losers on Bse Sensex, followed by ITC, Maruti and Power Grid. Axis Bank rallied over 5% on account of merger statement. 

On Global front, the European shares slipped in early trading on Tuesday, with HSBC leading the regional banking index lower after reporting a 62% slump in its annual pre-tax profit.
