Green Ghost And The Masters Of The Stone (2021)

Indiana Jones style! Blue light and the cold mysterious interior of a tomb... they start with an atmospheric room. Another gem I get to thanks to the ever so prolific - into his late seventies - Danny Trejo! And what a role he had in this one. XD Favorite one in a while.

Though it turns out he wasn't the highlight at all, and this was all but the B-movie I'd expected!

It reminds me of Johnny Tao though. Which is a good thing. It has a similar hybrid of supernatural and martial arts, with a cast you might not (probably won't) recognize, but ones who clearly know what they're doing! The special effects are tasteful, the magic's in the air and the fights are extra rare.

There's a Fast and Furious bit too - they pay homage to the good ones - they even got the Gasolina track in its entirety.

It's not perfect y'all, gotta be honest. It doesn't hit you straight in the feels or blow you away with the fight choreography - even though they managed to get in a surprisingly solid selection of martial artists for the fights. You have the likes of Marko Zaror, Kuno Becker, Charlie Clark and... more. They're all awesome.

The most awesome part about it though?

It's that it's actually based on a real story. A tribute to a real Nana, with a real Charlie, who plays Charlie in the movie, who I imagine might've orchestrated this whole thing. As the credits roll they play a slideshow of pictures of her through the years, with Charlie in the background, a beaming beacon of light by this proud woman, growing bigger and bigger as she grows smaller and smaller, all the way till her 99th birthday, and that's where it ends... the movie may not have hit me in the feels - feelgood and fun watch though it was - but that part definitely did. My own mom's shrinking. I'm growing. We're going. Till it's over. And this guy made a movie like this for his ma?! Seems he was a fighter for real too, I don't recognize him, I don't know his career but... goddamnit man. Can't give this less than a...

 rated 5/5: friggin awesome
