Die Hart (2023)

Imagine an actual Die Hard parody with Kevin Hart! That'd be dope. This was... not that exactly. But it was good. It was visually impeccable. It was riddled with impressive details and cameos. I thought I saw Sona Movsesian in the intro. Then suddenly Jean Reno's in the building.

In a world overflowing with comedy specials it's refreshing to see that comedy transformed into a real movie. For sure we get comedies too, but this almost feels like a hybrid between forms. Like a visualized comedy special. Enhanced. For real. Next level.

And then John Travolta!

God damn man. The cast's unexpected. Even if Hart's already played with as legendary peeps as The Rock and Jack Black it's... I don't know why I expected anything less here... maybe because he is the leading man here...

Unfortunately it's corny. Just not good. Not even with the high-octane action sequence we finally arrive in. I wish Travolta did play a twisted psycho instead. I wish... it took a turn. It turns out it didn't. Turns out they were playing exactly what they were playing after all, and though the teacher may have succeeded in what he set out to do you can't say he was a good one...

Maybe the problem is he has no genuine tough guy beside him to balance out his humor? And however great he may be he just is not genuinely tough. At least not in this movie, playing the role he plays. The comedy would falter if he was. Feels like there's something missing with the lack thereof thus.

Not a fan of this one. The concept's great. The execution: too corny. The other actors too. Though it looks great, and I love the name.

Damn shame.

 rated 3/5: not bad
