Outfire Browser

The Outfire Browser is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that may often deploy its files on a computer automatically. According to malware experts, the Outfire Browser application may be associated with a Trojan downloader whose purpose is to distribute this PUP to as many computers as possible, as well as to replace all Web browsers found on the computers affected by the Outfire Browser. The Trojan responsible for the distribution of the Outfire Browser takes advantage of a Windows vulnerability that allows it to bypass the limitations set by the User Account Control (UAC). This way, the Trojan can install the Outfire Browser and perform modifications to file and folders automatically.

The Outfire Browser is not threatening, but installing it on your computer is certainly not a good decision. When the Outfire Browser gets installed, it may create Registry entries to ensure that this browser’s modules will be loaded as soon as Windows boots up. Furthermore, the PUP may delete all Google Chrome shortcuts and replace them with shortcuts to the Outfire Browser. Afterward, the dubious Web browser may use the Google Chrome’s configuration, so that the user’s bookmarks and extensions will remain unchanged while they use the Outfire Browser. Another thing that the Outfire Browser does to prevent users from using other Web browsers is to check for 56 specific browser processes and terminate them.

Another notable thing about the Outfire Browser is that it may set the homepage and new tab page to ourstartpage.com, which is a low-quality search engine. The browser also may prevent users from modifying this setting, therefore ensure that Outstartpage.com will receive a lot of traffic as soon as someone launches the Outfire Browser. In addition to this, the Chromium-based browser may install useless browser extensions whose sole purpose is to inject advertising content in all pages that the user browses automatically. Unsurprisingly, these extensions may be nearly impossible to remove manually, and users of the Outfire Browser may not be able to get rid of them. It is clear that the Outfire Browser is a dubious and useless application that does not deserve a place in your list of installed software. We recommend the Outfire Browser’s removal be carried out with the assistance of a potent anti-malware scanner swiftly.
