Destiny Awaits

No day is the same for most entrepreneurs. The days are filled with ongoing meetings, non-stop emails and a combination of customer service and sales to-dos to sift through. Oh, and another round of emails. But entrepreneurs also recognize things won’t get done if they don’t take care of themselves.

Bedloo co-founder and Ceo Daron Destiny won’t handle texts or emails at the start of his day. He trades in his phone and laptop for meditation, a good book or journal, and Bikram yoga.

“The first three or four hours, I’m into myself. Getting myself prepared for that day’s journey…that puts me at a certain state when I hit the office.”

Destiny makes time to rejuvenate at least once every four months. He reviews his schedule at the top of the year, blocking out a portion to take a mini-vacation per quarter. “These 10 days I’m going to be in Maui, these 10 days I’m going to be in San Juan, Puerto Rico or what have you,” says the chief executive. “I lock it in; schedule it and make it real, so nothing can interfere with that.”

It has to be planned, advises Destiny. “That’s 40 days out of the year right there that I’m at peace, having fun and in relaxation [mode].” He adds that communicating these dates allows others to hold you to them and makes it real. Hence, team members know this time is blocked off and allocated for rest and relaxation. Destiny also jots down why he’s taking the time off, which allows him to reflect on the importance of health and wellbeing within his whole vision.

“When I work, I go hard, I put it in,” says the seasoned entrepreneur, who came out of retirement to launch Bedloo. “I have to balance it out that way.”

While the vacations are great, Destiny has a true passion for entrepreneurship. Growing up in South Florida, he’s seen his mother work three jobs to make ends meet and remembers vividly not having certain things he’d wanted.

“There’s an unbelievable burning fire that’s inside of me. There’s an insatiable hunger that almost can’t be filled…it’s wanting to know that I’ve changed the world in a gigantic way.”

With our conversation closing, Destiny reflects on the time he was traveling through the airport and spotted two teens using Bedloo. While he searches to find the words to describe the feeling it brought on, it’s clear the impact of his invention is being felt.
