How to Curate Your Keywords For Local SEO

Tags: local seo
Local SEO ranking factors are diverse and they depend on what we call 'Local SEO strategies'. Today we are going to discuss how you can gather all data you have acquired in a little .CSV file, do the SEO witchery and get the best results from your efforts.

Optimizing for pin points on the map!

The lack of proper Local SEO is the reason why people have fallen prey to black and white animals (read: Panda and Penguin). The harm that has been done cannot be easily undone, but we can make changes and have a different approach to our analysis. We have seen our projects bounce back from the lowest of abysses into their original positions with genuine efforts at correct analysis and research.

Keywords are the founding stones of content on which SEO depends. The rules applicable with keywords have changed over the years, now keyword density is not as important, but the importance of these key search phrases have remained same.

Search engines still depend of these to find content and rank them. Hence, we will begin our correctional efforts with keywords --- finding them, filtering them and fine tuning them to make them better.

But first, lets answer the all important question --- Why do we need Local SEO?

More than 70% of the searchers do not speak English as their first language. As such, there is a great potential for SEOs to  use local languages to gain ranks for local businesses. Now, there are certain hurdles in the way of translating pages from English to the native language of the business or creating original content in a foreign language. Besides localization does not end at the language.

To do Local SEO in the true sense of the term, one must be aware of the culture, online behavior and common search trends that are unique to the geography.  Social media is a big thing in America and Europe, but things change when we consider China or Russia. These two are the emerging giants of the online realm that do not care much about Facebook or Twitter. In fact, China has banned Facebook and Russians are active on Vkontakte.ru rather than Facebook.

If you have a business that caters to one of these markets or is concerned with providing a tailor-made experience for searchers within a geographic pocket of UK or the USA, Local SEO is the way to go for you.

These tips on Local SEO keyword research:

  • Your target should be to find keywords that have good search volumes
  • Keep your targets realistic, Local SEO is as much keywords as it is about realistic goals
  • Take several factors under consideration instead of one
  • Keep an eye on your on-page needs when filtering keywords
  • Look for keywords that are low on competition, low on difficulty level and high on search
