Google Glasses and Apple's New Patent Will Change Digital Marketing


Intro

Things are moving at such frantic pace, we wounder if by 2020 we will be in 1984. That's right, the Orwellian dream of an advanced universe where everything is so advanced that it becomes a pain in the arse!

Well, not everybody (such as your truly) shares that version of the future. We are actually excited, expecting new gates to open into things and processes we  have not yet dreamed of. Imagine a pair of glass sitting on your nose, slapping information right at your face! We are yet to receive anything substantial from Google on how the device works and how far it stands true to the expectations of an augmented reality? Nevertheless, we are expecting something  Ethan Hunt uses in his espionage missions that are apparently impossible! 



Grow Up and Expect Something Real!

Well, we are in for a big disappointment because those fancy things happen only in movies. The first thing that you need to  know that the screen is tiny and not advanced enough to do sci-fi things like displaying a  lot of information, maps, images and scrolling information. Instead, this is how it should look:

Not impressed with the display? Well, neither are we, but for the time being, this is all we get, however given Google's interest on the matter, we should see better versions before long. And if they fall behind, we have Apple sneaking up close behind. 

What is Apple is Upto?

Back in October, 2006 Apple Filled for a Patent that was a step in the direction of the second patent that the Cupertino giant filled recently.

The picture of the guy with a helmet like thing clinging to his scalp is Apple's version of G0ogle glasses. We think Apple Helmet would suit it better! Suddenly Google's gadget looks much better.

So How Does This Affect Digital Marketing?

It is not hard to imagine that once we have gadgets like these, the entire Marketing scenario will undergo a sea change. Google is already putting way too much importance on Personalized results, with this gadget we can imagine where things are heading. 

For personalized marketing it is important to guess steps before the costumer actually takes them and keep the information ready to be served at the opportune moment.

Lets illustrate that better. Suppose Bob takes a bus to office everyday. On the way to the bus  stop he buys a newspaper. If you were a newspaper company and you know that Bob is on his way out to the bus stand, you would serve a few ads right into Bob's Google Glass hoping that he busy your newspaper. 

The same thing can be replicated by a burger shop, the barber and practically anybody who wants to sell highly Personalized Products to Bob!

Marketers have a lot to look forward to, they will get a deeper look into behaviors and choices of the consumer, tailor products to suit individuals and serve it right at their faces! Better products, Highly Personalized with easy-to-order options (probably with the blink of an eye!) will give every Digital agency the perfect tool they always wanted. 

Will Everybody Like This?

We don't think so. There will be resistances because people may consider this an intrusion into their privacy. The technology paves the path for personalized solutions for which a digital agency will require access to information (private pictures, etc). Personalized products are not mere suggestions. These are products that have a good chance of being bought. Every product will be presented after thoroughly following the buyers patters and behaviors, which makes it all the more importunate and in some cases, uncalled-for.

It remains to be seen where Google draws the line between private and publicly accessible information.
