Step 1: Open the iMovie app
Open the cropping and rotating tool from the iMovie project.
Step 2: Import your media file
You can go to the file and import media or even you can just drag and drop to the media file to the new location in the timeline and release, which you want to fix from the video selection list.
Step 3: Tap on share in iMovie iPhone App
Tap on the ‘Share’ / action button, it looks like a box with an arrow flying out the top of it.
Step 4: Select create movie
Click on create movie in Share sheet in iMovie.
Step 5: Create a new movie
After selecting the create movie tab, you will get to see another option of create new movie, just click on that. Start creating by selecting the specific portion of the clip that you want to rotate.
Step 6: Rotate video
The correct orientation for changing the vertical video is 90 degree. Place two fingers about an inch apart on the video in the iMovie and rotate them like you’re turning a dial to the clockwise or counterclockwise direction as you want to rotate the video. At each click you will be able to change the video to 90 degrees.
When white arrow appears, the video clip have been rotated 90 degrees. Sometimes it take a moment for the clip to be appear rotated. You can repeat this gesture as many times as necessary to achieve the orientation you want.
Step 7: Preview and done
When the video has been rotated to the orientation you would like to keep, click the play button in the viewer to preview the video. When you are happy with the results, just tap on the done button at the upper left hand corner.
Step 8: Tap on share button and save the video
Now tap the sharing button (the box with the arrow flying out of the top) and then select the save video option to save the fixed video of the changed orientation again to the photo library.
- Select the video resolution of your choice to export the movie as: 360p, 540p, 720p or 1080p.
- After completion of the process, iMovie will send you alert, ‘the video has been saved to your photo library. Then after you can check the changed vertical video in the photo app.
That’s all! Your video has been successfully rotated and saved as separate movie file into your iPhone or iPad.
