The Vancouver Park Board is poised to deliberate on the implementation of paid Parking at Spanish Banks Beach’s four lots. This decision comes in response to the growing demand for parking space during peak season, which has led to congestion and impacted the surrounding neighborhoods.

The proposal suggests a seasonal approach to paid parking, potentially running from April to September, aligning with the highest visitor numbers. Initial rates could mirror the city’s standard of $1.00 per hour.

Previous attempts to introduce paid parking at Spanish Banks in 2018 met with public resistance, leading to the cancellation of the plan. However, Park Board staff now cite a 85% capacity usage of the parking lots, indicating a change may be necessary to manage the summer swell effectively.
