However, since the 2018 5.9.6 update, Amazon allows Kindle users to add custom fonts to their devices. The e-reader supports OpenType (OTF) and TrueType (TTF) fonts , so you’ll have thousands of options to choose from.

Being a 2018 update, there’s a good chance your Kindle will be compatible, unless it’s a pretty old model. How can you check compatibility? Viewing the firmware version in Settings > Device Options > Information . Now, how is the process of installing these custom fonts? You will be surprised how easy it is.

Step by Step: How to Download and Install Custom Fonts on Your Amazon Kindle

To install a custom font on your Amazon Kindle, the first thing you need to do is download the one you want to use , right? Just like your phone, which has great apps to change the Android font, there are tons of font repositories online for your Amazon Kindle.

The most famous are undoubtedly Google Fonts , Font Squirrel and DaFont , but there are many more that will serve you well. What should you take into account when downloading a font? Two things:

  • The format, remember that the Kindle only accepts .otf, .ttf and .ttc fonts .
  • As you will read things in Spanish, download fonts that have specific characters of our language such as the letter Ñ, umlauts and others.

Knowing that, the steps you need to follow to install custom fonts on your Amazon Kindle are as follows:

  1. Download the font you want to your Kindle. If it’s compressed into a ZIP file, unzip it.
  2. Connect your Kindle to the computer with the USB cable.
  3. Open your Kindle storage and go to the Font folder .
  4. Copy the font files you want to add.
  5. Disconnect your Kindle from the computer.
  6. Go to your Kindle ‘s Display Settings (Aa) menu and choose the new font.

As a final note, we must remind you that many fonts are downloaded as complete families that include italics, bold, regular fonts, condensed and more. If you don’t know specifically which style you want to use, copy all the files to your Kindle. Otherwise, just copy just the style you want.

Now it’s time to enjoy your Kindle with personalized fonts, so tell us about your experience after reading a couple of books. Don’t have a Kindle? Don’t worry, there are also excellent apps to read e-books on Android, many of which are customizable.
