5 Tips to Make Your Induction Program a Success

Induction training or on-board training enables employees to integrate in their new job environment and help them understand their roles and responsibilities. If you want your Induction Program to be successful, you need to keep a few things in mind.

Plan: The trainer should plan in advance for an induction Program. A detailed agenda of the program should be prepared in advance. This ensures that there is no wastage of time and employees are actively engaged throughout the process. It also indicates that employees are valued as a resource and given importance that is due to them.

Agenda: Distribute a copy of the induction program plan to participants so that they know what to expect from the program. It also helps them to list down queries that they may have with respect to a particular issue and will be able to raise the same during the program.

Checklist: There should be an induction checklist which would help the training manager to compile all the material needed for the program. New employees will have many questions and training managers need to be prepared with relevant information that a new hire might require. Any queries and questions that new hires might raise should be answered immediately and in the event it cannot be address immediately, it should be communicated subsequently once the information is obtained.

Time: The induction program should start promptly at the agreed date and time. It gives new recruits a message that time is valued and punctuality is important in the organization. This would set the standards for employees to follow later on.

Communication: Communication needs to be clear and concise with regular checks to ensure proper comprehension by all the members of the program. This is an ideal occasion to communicate about corporate policy, dos and don’ts and disciplinary issues so that employees are clear about what is acceptable and what is unacceptable in the organization. Participants can voice out any concerns or questions.

An induction program prepares new employees for their career with the organization. The uncertainty or apprehension that new employees face would be reduced with a well-planned induction program. This helps them start their work with confidence and enthusiasm. Therefore, HR managers should ensure that induction program is a regular part of the employee recruitment process.
