To know the speed of your Internet connection you should use any internet speed test we list below. Keep in mind that your Internet connection speed depends on many factors, including your ISP, modem type, time of day, browser version, operating system, traffic and intersecting signals.

Primus provides a speed test for dial-up and DSL Internet connections.

Cogeco offers a speed test based in java. Not recommended if you use Firefox (it may freeze).

Broadband Speed Test in UK

If you live in UK, it's better to test your internet speed test against servers located in your own country. We recommend:

ZDNet UK offers a Broadband Speed Test for Internet connections ranging from dial-up (28.8k modem) to 1.5Mb DSL/cable.

Another option is Broadband Choices. Here you are asked to enter your ISP and the speed your connection is meant to be, so you can know if you get the speed you are paying for.

Broadband Speed Test in Australia

Oz Broadband Speed Test where you can test both download and upload speed of your Internet connection, supporting Dial-up, ADSL, Cable or Wireless.

Compare your results with ZDNet Australia Broadband Speed Test. They have fancy graphics.

Speed Tests in New Zealand

Consumer Broadband Speed Test measures the upload and download speeds of your Internet connection.

Here is a broadband speed test where you can choose the locations of the servers used to run the test. Options are New Zealand, Auckland and United States.

Definition of Terms

Download speed: The speed at which your Internet connection downloads data to your PC from the Internet.

Upload speed: The speed at which your Internet connection uploads data from your PC out to the Internet, e.g. when sending an email.

RTT: Round Trip Time (RTT) reports the total time in milliseconds (ms) to send a small data packet and obtain a reply back. The smaller the RTT score means a faster the connection.
