Difference between Web Design and Web Development

In today’s world, it is effortless to have a website. But have you ever wondered what goes into the intricate process of website development and designing? And what are the fundamental differences between these two factors? These two aspects of any development process need to complement each other to make a perfect website.
In this post let us discuss the primary difference between the process of web design and web development.

What is Web Design?

Website design is all about the look, feel, and usability of the website. The color scheme, layout, fonts, and overall look of the website are determined during this process. Another important aspect of designing is to make the website as simple and aesthetic as possible for the best user-friendly experience.
The designing process usually involves two stages: User interface designing and User experience designing.

User Interface (UI)-

The user interface (UI) corely enables the website with graphics, illustrations, photographic artwork, and typography which enhances the display and layout according to the website in various device views. User Interface elements consist of-
Input controls like buttons, drop-down menus, and data fields.
Navigational components like search fields, sliders, icons, and tags.
Informational components like progress bars, notifications, and message boxes.

User Experience (UX)

UX stands for User Experience. It is the process of developing a website, that can enhance the user experience and increase the user retention percentage. This process determines to minimize the efforts of the user to navigate through the website and to reach the results flawlessly without any hiccups. It means to create services and products that enable the users with a significant experience of the brand and its functions. In simpler words, we can say that the user experience is the journey of the users to interact with the products and services that are listed on the website.

What is Web Development?

Now, the process of website development is more complex as it requires high-end coding and programming. In this process, website developers create a fully functional website with the use of various tools and software like Javascript, jQuery, Node.js, PHP, ASP.NET Python, etc. Apart from this developers also need to collaborate with the UI & UX developers as the web page visual design is created by the designers and developers to make it functional.
The website development process is divided into three stages: Front-end development, Back-end development, and Full Stack Development.

Front-End Development

Front-end development is focused on the part that the users directly use, it is also coined as the client side of the application. This process includes text colors and styles, images, graphs and tables, buttons, colors, and a navigation menu. For front-end development HTML, CSS, and JavaScript languages are used.
The front-end developer implements the structure, design, behavior, and content that a user will witness while browsing the website on the browser, web application, and mobile application. A front-end developer must ensure the responsiveness and performance of the website irrespective of all sizes of screens of any device.

Back-End Development

All of the work related to the servers, whether it is storing and arranging the data or ensuring a smooth flow on both ends of the client and user is determined by the back-end developers. The work of the back-end development can’t be seen by the users but the whole website runs based on this coding and programming. Activities, like writing APIs, creating libraries, and working with system components without user interfaces or even systems of scientific programming, are also included in the back-end.

Full-Stack Development

Full-stack developers take part in the complete development process of the web application and the website. This includes the in-detail procedure of the front-end development as well as back-end development.

Differences between the Web Design and Web Development

In this tabular form, we have tried to summarize the main aspect that draws the line between web design and web development.

S.No.Web Design Web Development
1The web designing process is more on the creative side.  The Web development is more technical.
2It determines the looks and aesthetics of the website.  It determines the functionality and the technicality of the website.
Web designers create the style of the website.   Web developers create the technical feasibility of the website.
4Making sure of the color theme, fonts, layouts, typography, graphics, and illustrations is the crucial part.  Making sure of the programming, responsiveness, speed, data management, server efficiency, and security are crucial parts.
5Types of Web Designers:
  User Experience (UX)
  User Interface (UI)

Types of Web Development:
  Front-end
  Back-end
  Full-stack
6Tools used in Web designing include Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, Dreamweaver, Sketch, etc.Tools Used in Web development are HTML, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, Python, Ruby, jQuery, WordPress, etc.

Conclusion

While web design and web development may seem interchangeable, they are crucial for crafting exceptional websites. Web design focuses on aesthetics, usability, and user experience, encompassing UI and UX design elements. Conversely, web development delves into complex coding and programming, comprising front-end, back-end, and full-stack development stages. Together, these processes harmonize to create seamless, visually appealing, and functional websites that engage users effectively. Understanding the disparities between web design and web development underscores the importance of collaboration between designers and developers in achieving website excellence in today’s digital landscape.
