The Year's Top 10 Enterprise AI Trends — So Far

In 2022, the big AI story was the technology emerging from research labs and proofs-of-concept, to it being deployed throughout enterprises to get business value. This year started out about the same, with slightly better ML algorithms and improved data pipelines. But that seems so long ago now. And in the few months left of 2023, change could further offset what we've come to expect.

The advent of gen AI changed everything, and the pace of that change is like nothing we've seen before. The potential impacts are reminiscent of the dawn of the Internet, and are likely to be just as transformative for businesses. According to McKinsey, gen AI is poised to add up to an annual $4.4 billion to the global economy.

AI is now a board-level priority

Last year, AI consisted of point solutions and niche applications that used ML to predict behaviors, find patterns, and spot anomalies in carefully curated data sets. Today's foundational models are jacks-of-all-trades. They can code, write poetry, draw in any art style, create PowerPoint slides and website mockups, write marketing copy and emails, and find new vulnerabilities in software and plot holes in unpublished novels.

"Generative AI touches every aspect of the enterprise, and every aspect of society," says Bret Greenstein, partner and leader of the gen AI go-to-market strategy at PricewaterhouseCoopers. "With a pre-trained model, you can bring it into HR, finance, IT, customer service—all of us are touched by it."

All of PwC's clients are having this discussion, he says. "I've never seen this level of interest and excitement." And nobody has to get sold on it, he adds. Everyone wants it. "Once you have it in the workplace, you get 1,000 use cases because everyone wants to do it."

The potentials for increasing productivity or for enabling types of business not possible before are huge. But there's also the downside: the possibility gen AI will take Companies down. The phrase "existential risk" is now everywhere—not in the sense the AI would destroy humanity, but that it would make business functions, or even entire companies, obsolete.

Regulating AI

At a recent gathering in Washington of AI leaders briefing regulators about AI, most have come out in favor of some kind of regulation of the industry. In Europe, the AI Act is on its way. Although written before gen AI, it has provisions that apply but it'll most likely go through modifications before going into effect.

In July, New York City started enforcing new rules about the use of AI in hiring decisions. And at the end of March, Italy banned ChatGPT entirely, before unbanning it again about a month later. "Italy's knee-jerk reaction was a shot across the bow," says Greenstein. But it's a sign of what's to come. "If you take something slightly risky and make it a thousand times bigger, the risks are amplified," he says. Gen AI is that amplification and the world's reaction to it is like enterprises and society reacting to the introduction of a foreign body. "We can't reject it, but we also can't let it take control and let it happen in an unregulated way," he says.

AI and change management

Change management has long been instrumental to the success of AI projects. It doesn't matter how accurate an AI model is, or how much benefit it'll bring to a company if the intended users refuse to have anything to do with it. But, until this year, this was a relatively manageable problem since the AI projects had limited scope. With gen AI, however, the impact on the workforce is going to be dramatically bigger.

"This is the largest change management project in history," says Greenstein. "We've never had a technology touch everyone so rapidly."

Embedded AI

Embedding AI into enterprise systems that employees were already using was a trend before gen AI came along. It made predictions and analytics broadly accessible and put the power of data in the hands of people who needed it, exactly when they needed it, and in the form that was most useful to them.

It took years for traditional AI—ML and neural networks—to get to the point where they could be embedded. Gen AI took a few months. Today, most major AI platforms, including OpenAI, have APIs allowing enterprises, and enterprise software vendors, to quickly add gen AI functionality into their systems.

"Making existing applications better with embedded AI is awesome," says Greenstein.

Even better is when the AI can be adapted to the unique needs of each business. Traditional ML requires a lot of data, experienced data scientists, as well as training and tuning. Today's gen AI platforms, however, require much less data since companies can start out with general-purpose foundation models and either fine-tune them on their own data, add a vector database, or inject information and examples directly into the prompt.

And as it gets cheaper and easier to customize AIs, more companies will begin doing it for smaller use cases, says Greenstein, making it truly pervasive in the enterprise.

"Given how we think the market will develop, generative AI will get embedded into every application we use," says Nick Patience, research director specializing in AI at S&P Global Market Intelligence.

In a recent report, he estimated that gen AI software revenues will grow from $3.7 billion this year to $36 billion by 2028.

"And we may have even underestimated it," Patience says.

He's currently tracking 262 gen AI vendors, of which 117 specialize in text generation, and plans to produce a new version of the report in the next six months. Normally, he says, these kinds of reports are refreshed every two years, but this market is moving too quickly for that.

One reason gen AI is getting added faster to enterprise software than previous generations of AI is that it can potentially change the relationship between humans and software, he says.

"It has the ability to let people converse in natural language and get things done," he says. "Previously, they'd need to code or understand Excel or a query language. Through the use of natural language, you can as a human run complex queries on data sets and other things that are too complex to do on your own."

Patience has been following this space for more than two decades and says he's never seen anything like it.

"It's incredible," he says. "Our clients, and clients I've never spoken to before, all want to know what's going on. For those who have skills, it's going to be a force multiplier. For others, it'll be a bit more of a threat. But it'll enable people to do higher-value work than they are currently able to do."

Business process automation

AI has long played a role in RPA, albeit a small one. ML was used for sentiment analysis, and to scan documents, classify images, transcribe recordings, and other specific functions. Then gen AI came out.

"The world has flipped since 2022," says David McCurdy, chief enterprise architect and CTO at Insight. "We've done a number of things with our customers that weren't in the toolbox 12 months ago. You now have the ability to jump over processes that have existed for years, sometimes decades, because of generative technology."

One of the best immediate use cases is summarizing documents and extracting information from material, he says.

"This wasn't possible before," he says. "Now you can go in and extract a concept, not just a word. It's transforming some of our workflows."

Enterprises still aren't extracting enough value from unstructured data hidden away in documents, though, says Nick Kramer, VP for applied solutions at management consultancy SSA & Company.

"Existing technology just doesn't surface the most relevant content consistently and easily enough," he says. "This is where large language models get me really excited. The ability to ingest the corpus of company knowledge offers limitless possibilities."

AI vendor management

Only the biggest companies are going to build or manage their own AI models, and even those will rely on vendors to provide most of the AI they use. Microsoft, Google, Salesforce—all the major players are all in on AI, so it only makes sense to leverage that. But as gen AI touches more of a company's data, people, and processes, that vendor selection and management process becomes increasingly important.

"I wouldn't acquire operational technology that didn't have ML and AI capabilities," says Insight's McCurdy. "If the companies aren't leveraging AI, and don't have a roadmap, we won't buy their software."

This is one of the ways that enterprises can avoid technical debt, he says, by investing in partners and companies investing in AI. But even when a vendor has AI on the roadmap, or is already building it, there are still risks. "Just like in the early days of the Internet, a lot of companies will come and go," says Rob Lee, chief curriculum director and faculty lead at the SANS Institute. He's already seeing this in the cybersecurity space. "At Black Hat, there were at least a hundred companies I saw," he says. "But do they have something truly sellable?"

One thing buyers have to be careful about is the security measures vendors put in place. With new technology deployments, security often comes as an afterthought. With AI, that would be a big mistake.

"What happens if you upload your data to these AIs?" Lee asks. "You want to experiment, but if someone uploads the wrong spreadsheet to the wrong AI, you have a data breach."

Trustworthy AI

Last year, as classic AI became increasingly deployed into production, companies began to take the issue of trustworthiness more seriously. They wanted models that were reliable, free of bias, and built on ethical principles. Plus, the AI should be transparent and understandable since people want to know why AIs make the decisions and recommendations it does. Today, trustworthiness is a top priority for everyone from college students trying to get help with their homework, to global leaders looking to avoid an AI apocalypse. Researchers, vendors, consultants, and regulators are working on coming up with guardrails and ethical principles that will govern how AI is trained and deployed.

"We're still in the early phases of this," says Donncha Carroll, partner in the revenue growth practice and head of the data science team at Lotis Blue Consulting. "You don't want to trust a system where you can't see or audit how it's operating, especially if it can make decisions that can have consequences. The oversight piece hasn't been figured out yet."

Open-source AI

Open source has long been a driver of innovation in the AI space. Many data science tools and base models are open source, or are based heavily on open-source projects. For a few months this year, there were concerns the new space of gen AI would be dominated by tech giants, companies who had the millions of dollars needed to train large language models (LLM), and the data to train them on.

OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Bard, IBM's Watson, Anthropic's Claude, and other major foundation models are proprietary. But in February, Meta released Llama, an open-source LLM licensed for non-commercial use, which quickly became the base for many projects. Then, in July, Meta's Llama 2 came out, and this time, it was licensed for commercial use. Anyone could use it or modify it, for free, as long as they had fewer than 700 million active daily users. Microsoft quickly pledged to support it on its Azure platform. So did Amazon on AWS. And VMware made it one of the cornerstones of its gen AI stack.

In August, Meta continued releasing models. This time, it was Code Llama, an LLM trained for writing code. Then in September, the UAE's Technology Innovation Institute released Falcon 180B, the largest open-source model yet. It quickly rose to the top of the Hugging Face open LLM leaderboard, previously dominated by Llama 2 and its variants.

Falcon was also released under a variant of the Apache 2 license, available for commercial use, and works for both natural language generation and code.

The open-source models make it possible for enterprises to deploy customized AI in their own infrastructure, without having to send their data to a Cloud provider and offer greater flexibility and lower costs. Some of these open-source models are even small enough to run on desktop computers or mobile devices.

"You're going to see more of this incredible computation power being distributed on the edge," says Lotis Blue's Carroll.

Secure, reliable data infrastructure

Both ML and gen AI depend on data. Over the past 10 years, data has grown to be a company's most valuable asset, the electricity that powers innovation and value creation. To make all this possible, the data had to be collected, processed, and fed into the systems that needed it in a reliable, efficient, scalable, and secure way. Data warehouses then evolved into data lakes, and then data fabrics and other enterprise-wide data architectures. All that's going to prove valuable, both as companies continue to expand their traditional AI projects, and for the new gen AI functionality coming online. For many companies, that means public-facing chatbots like ChatGPT aren't an option because of the lack of enterprise-grade data protection.

"There's a need to protect the data going into them," says McCurdy. "That creates an obvious barrier for some use cases until you establish that security perimeter."

For some, that means running OpenAI's model or others in private clouds, or even running open-source models on prem, depending on a company's risk profile. Meanwhile, even after years of effort, a lot of companies still don't have their data ready for AI. According to S&P Global's new 2023 Global Trends in AI survey of 1,500 AI practitioners and decision-makers, released in August, the biggest technological challenge to deploying AI is data management. And even though 69% of companies have at least one AI project in production, only 28% have reached enterprise scale.

Accelerating pace of change

Gen AI wouldn't be possible without the global connectivity afforded by the Internet and the massive amount of information so easily available in digital form, ready to be used as training data. Then there's cloud computing, SaaS, and APIs, which allow new technologies to be deployed quickly and easily without large upfront integration costs for enterprises. So it's no surprise the adoption rate of gen AI is faster than that of any technology seen before. But beyond that, gen AI is also a technology that helps to accelerate its own development.

In April, venture capitalist Yohei Nakajima wondered if it was possible to have an "AI founder," which could run a company autonomously, and asked ChatGPT to build it. It took about three hours total, and ChatGPT wrote the code, the research paper, and a Twitter thread. Nakajima called it "BabyAGI" and it went viral on GitHub. It was an all-purpose agent that could be set to work at any objective, not just starting a company.

"I jokingly asked the autonomous agent to create as many paperclips as possible," Nakajima wrote in a blog post describing the project. "It found out about the AI paperclip apocalypse and started by generating a safety protocol."

BabyAGI uses OpenAI's GPT-4 API, Pinecone vector search, and the LangChain AI framework to figure out what tasks need to be done to achieve an objective, how to prioritize those tasks, and then do them. Similar projects include AutoGPT and AgentGPT.

Another example of AI pulling itself up by its own bootstraps this year was Alpaca, where Stanford University researchers used one of the early Llama models from Meta. This was a raw model that hadn't undergone reinforcement learning from human feedback—an expensive and time-consuming process. Alpaca took a shortcut, using OpenAI's text-davinci-003, a close relative of ChatGPT, to generate 52,000 Q&A pairs and used them to train its new chatbot. The whole process cost less than $600, researchers said, $500 of which was spent on the OpenAI API and $100 for computing costs. And when the team tested it, it was comparable to text-davinci-003 in performance. In other words, gen AI models can write new code to improve their own performance, and they can generate data to train the next generation of models.

"The tools and toolkits are changing so quickly," says Priya Iragavarapu, VP of digital technology services at AArete, a management consulting firm. "Even before leaders and the community are able to read and understand the manual." This creates challenges for companies trying to plan ahead, she says, since it's difficult to tell what's already possible and what's still in development. "It's getting hard for leaders to delineate between the two," she says.

As a result of the fast pace of change, many firms look to build flexible frameworks—ones that allow them to drop in different models as they develop. For example, PricewaterhouseCoopers is not tying itself down to any particular LLM.

"We have a plugin architecture," says PwC's Greenstein. "We've been helping people build to whatever standards exist, but still have flexibility."

The company also has people keeping a close eye on the leading edge of development. "With AI, it's coming so quickly," he says. "We're focusing on 'no regret moves' like building an LLM-agnostic infrastructure. That's critical now because the models are leapfrogging each other."

A wave of AI-related acquisitions is coming.

In C-suites and board rooms around the world today, one topic has taken center stage: What is our AI strategy?

Motivated by AI's transformative potential—and terrified of being disrupted—many large companies will pursue strategic M&A in the months and years ahead as they seek to bolster their AI capabilities.

This trend is already underway, with Databricks acquiring MosaicML for $1.3 billion and Thomson Reuters acquiring Casetext for $650 million on the same day this summer.

Amid the AI fervor, let's engage in a fun thought exercise: what splashy AI-related M&A deals might we read about in the headlines next?

To be clear, we are not suggesting that any one of these hypothetical deals is actually likely to happen. For one thing, antitrust headwinds loom large, with Lina Khan's FTC eager to challenge any and all tech-related M&A.

But it is nonetheless instructive (and entertaining!) to reflect on which blockbuster acquisitions in the world of AI would be the most strategically compelling and make the most business sense.

1. Microsoft acquires Hugging Face.

Hugging Face is often described as the "GitHub of AI." It is an apt comparison. GitHub and Hugging Face are both open-source repositories where developers can share and explore one another's work—code in the case of GitHub, AI models and datasets in the case of Hugging Face.

Microsoft's $7.5 billion acquisition of GitHub in 2018 proved to be a savvy strategic move: the deal deepened Microsoft's ties with the developer community, made it a leader in the open-source ecosystem, boosted its cloud computing business and provided numerous integration opportunities with existing business lines.

Five years later, a compelling logic exists for Microsoft to follow the same playbook and acquire Hugging Face, pairing it with GitHub to create the world's leading open-source developer platform.

An interesting additional angle to this deal: while Microsoft is closely tied to OpenAI, fissures have begun to appear in the partnership in recent months and Microsoft is now seeking to lessen its dependence on OpenAI. Acquiring Hugging Face would help Microsoft position itself as a neutral platform on which a wide range of different AI providers and models, both closed-source and open-source, can thrive.

2. Meta acquires Character.Ai.

Character.Ai has created what may prove to be a game-changing new social experience for the era of generative AI. The app's usage and growth numbers are eye-popping, particularly among the 18-to-24 age demographic.

Whenever it is faced with a new challenger in social media, Meta/Facebook does one of two things: it shamelessly copies the new entrant or it tries to acquire them (often both).

We have seen this movie play out numerous times over the past two decades. Meta/Facebook has famously copied product ideas from Twitter, Snapchat and TikTok, among others, over the years. It has also been willing to pay up to acquire rivals, including buying Instagram for $1 billion in 2012 and buying WhatsApp for $19 billion in 2014 (not to mention its unsuccessful attempt to buy Snapchat for $3 billion in 2013).

With Character.Ai, Meta is already executing on the first part of this playbook, announcing a new chatbot concept last week that transparently mimics Character.Ai's product.

If Character.Ai continues its meteoric rise in the months ahead, Meta would no doubt think seriously about buying the company outright in order to head off the competitive threat. (For the record, this hypothetical transaction is as unlikely as any on this list to actually come to fruition, given the antitrust cloud hanging over big tech in 2023.)

3. Snowflake acquires Pinecone.

When a major new technology platform emerges, the need—and opportunity—often arises to develop a fundamentally new type of database. This is because new technology platforms generally bring with them novel data modalities, data flows and data structures.

We saw this happen with the emergence of cloud computing a decade ago. Snowflake and Databricks were the big winners here, offering new database experiences purpose-built for the cloud era.

In the wake of AI's rise, vector databases have burst onto the scene as the next buzzy new database architecture. Vector databases are specifically architected to handle vector embeddings, the elementary data structure on which today's AI models are based.

While a number of vector database startups have emerged in recent months, none has seen more rapid adoption and revenue growth than Pinecone, whose valuation jumped from $30 million in 2021 to $750 million in 2023.

Now a $50 billion publicly traded company, Snowflake suddenly finds itself in the role of the established incumbent. It has an internal effort underway to build its own vector database offering, but don't be surprised to see Snowflake make an acquisition here as it seeks to avoid losing a step in this fast-moving new category.

4. Nvidia acquires CoreWeave.

Nvidia's most important customers—the large cloud providers Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform—are emerging as competitors. Amazon, Microsoft and Alphabet all are developing or have developed their own homegrown AI chips.

With the cloud providers seeking to move down the technology stack to the silicon layer to capture more value, what if Nvidia decided to move in the opposite direction, operating its own data centers and offering its own cloud services in order to reduce its traditional reliance on the cloud companies for distribution?

Nvidia has already begun exploring this possibility via a new cloud service called DGX Cloud. Acquiring CoreWeave, a specialized cloud provider focused on AI workloads, would represent a bold expansion of this strategy.

CoreWeave has experienced explosive recent growth thanks to the AI boom, with revenues jumping from $25 million last year to $500 million this year to a projected $2.3 billion in 2024. Nvidia and CoreWeave already have a close relationship: Nvidia is a major investor in CoreWeave and has helped fuel the company's meteoric rise by giving it preferential access to Nvidia's chips. Vertical integration could be the logical next step.

5. Intel acquires Modular.

Nvidia's dominance in AI chips stems as much from its software as from its hardware. Nvidia's CUDA platform is the most advanced software ecosystem in the world for parallel computing workloads—and it only works with Nvidia's GPU chips.

Modular, a well-funded startup led by legendary Silicon Valley engineer Chris Lattner, aspires to be a "CUDA killer" by developing a reimagined suite of software infrastructure for AI that works across different hardware platforms and software frameworks.

One might expect Nvidia to be the obvious acquirer for Modular, in order to neutralize the threat that Modular poses to its lucrative CUDA ecosystem. But we think Intel represents an even more intriguing and compelling buyer. As they say, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Once the largest chipmaker in the world, Intel has been left in the dust by Nvidia as artificial intelligence has taken the world by storm. Intel has shown it is not shy about making big acquisitions as it scrambles to catch up in AI, for instance shelling out $2 billion for Habana Labs in 2019. Modular could represent Intel's boldest AI bet yet, helping loosen Nvidia's grip on the AI market by promoting a more open and flexible alternative to CUDA.

Moreover, Modular's platform is built not just for GPUs but also for CPUs, which are Intel's bread and butter.

6. Adobe acquires Runway.

Adobe is the world's leading provider of software tools for the creative and design sectors. Runway is seeking to reinvent this category with a next-generation, AI-first platform for creative work.

Adobe has been impressively agile in reacting to the generative AI wave, developing its own proprietary generative model named Firefly and incorporating it into products like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Firefly has been well-received; customers have used it to generate over 2 billion images in the past seven months.

Given Firefly's success, Adobe need not make a kneejerk acquisition of a text-to-image or text-to-video startup like Midjourney, Ideogram or Pika Labs.

But Runway is more than just a generative model provider. The company aspires to create entirely new workflows for creative workers, offering a broad suite of AI-powered tools for visual design. Unlike the startups listed in the previous paragraph, which primarily serve consumers, Runway is finding adoption among creative professionals, enterprises and even Hollywood studios.

All this may convince Adobe that Runway is an asset worth owning.

7. Amazon acquires Anthropic.

This is the obvious and obligatory deal to include on this list, given last week's news that Amazon is investing up to $4 billion in Anthropic. This investment could represent the first step to a full acquisition.

The deal rationale: Anthropic would be to Amazon what OpenAI is to Microsoft. An OpenAI spinout, Anthropic is one of the world's leading AI research groups. Just as Microsoft has done with OpenAI, Amazon could incorporate Anthropic's cutting-edge large language models (LLMs) across its sprawling business empire, from e-commerce to cloud services to logistics and beyond, unlocking billions of dollars of value.

8. Eli Lilly acquires Inceptive.

Artificial intelligence is poised to profoundly transform the field of biology in the years ahead. Few applications of AI will have greater impact on human civilization.

A handful of startups is at the vanguard of this revolution, applying the latest in LLM and generative AI technology to deepen our understanding of how living systems work and to design new medicines that will improve human health.

One of the most intriguing startups in this category is Inceptive. Fresh off a $100 million funding round from Andreessen Horowitz and Nvidia, Inceptive is applying cutting-edge AI to develop novel RNA-based therapeutics. Led by AI luminary Jakob Uszkoreit, the co-inventor of the transformer architecture that sparked today's AI boom, Inceptive is chock-full of world-class computational and life sciences talent.

The big pharma companies have been closely monitoring the impact of AI on drug development for some time. To this point, they have mostly chosen to enter into partnerships with computational biology startups (e.G., Roche with Recursion, Bayer with Exscientia, Bristol Myers Squibb with insitro) rather than to acquire them outright. With AI's capabilities improving at breathtaking speed and with AI hype crescendoing, one of the pharma giants may decide to take the plunge and buy a startup like Inceptive in order to bring its talent and technology platform in-house.

Which big pharma player is most likely to make a move?

Eli Lilly is a strong candidate, for a few reasons: it is deeply committed to RNA as a new therapeutic modality; it has made several smart bets in AI in recent years; and as the largest pharma company in the world, it is well-positioned to make a big acquisition.

9. Salesforce acquires Gong.

Few companies have been more exuberant about AI in recent months than Salesforce. The company recently launched a $500 million corporate venture fund dedicated specifically to generative AI. Salesforce chief Marc Benioff routinely makes high-flung proclamations about AI's importance.

And Salesforce has a history of big-ticket M&A, from Slack to Tableau to Mulesoft.

Gong, which captures and analyzes sales conversations using machine learning, already integrates tightly with Salesforce's CRM platform. The complementarities and synergies between the two products are clear.

Gong is a larger and more mature business than the other hypothetical acquirees mentioned in this article. Given it was most recently valued at $7.25 billion, Gong would be a big acquisition target to pursue, although with a market capitalization of $200 billion Salesforce would be equipped to absorb it.

In truth, Gong's product stack is built using previous-generation AI and its $7+ billion valuation came at the peak of the frothy, zero-interest-rate market of 2021. The company might find itself receptive to an acquisition offer that allowed it to cash out and avoid having to navigate slowing revenue growth or a down round as an independent company.

10. Apple acquires Inflection AI.

Unlike its fellow tech giants Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft (via OpenAI) and now Amazon (via Anthropic), Apple lacks a deep bench of top-tier LLM talent.

Led by DeepMind cofounder Mustafa Suleyman, eighteen-month-old startup Inflection AI boasts a concentration of AI research talent that few organizations in the world can match.

Inflection's main product, a chatbot named Pi, would represent a compelling and more sophisticated replacement for Apple's Siri, which inexplicably missed the boat on LLMs and has quickly become outdated. Inflection's clean, elegant aesthetic even seems well-matched to Apple's iconic brand.

From Inflection's perspective, the young startup's appetite for computing resources is bottomless. The company raised a staggering $1.3 billion this summer in order to build the world's largest GPU cluster. Joining forces with Apple—the largest and most cash-rich company in the world, with over $165 billion cash on hand—would enable Inflection to access all the compute it could ever dream of in order to build its next-generation models.

With the venture capital space showing signs of life, investors are opening their wallets to provide funding for both early-stage startups and established companies - including Anthropic and Databricks - in cybersecurity, data analytics and all-things AI.

With the venture capital space finally showing signs of life, investors are opening their wallets to provide funding for both early-stage startups and established companies in cybersecurity, data analytics and AI – especially where some of those technologies come together.

Generative AI platform developer Anthropic was the big winner this month when it struck a blockbuster, multi-faceted deal with Amazon under with the giant company will invest up to $4 billion in the AI startup.

Data lakehouse and AI platform developer Databricks, which would likely have gone public by now under better market conditions, instead raised $500 million in a Series I funding round to help maintain the company's meteoric growth.

This month's Follow the Money roundup spotlights funding announcements for companies – including many early-stage startups – in cybersecurity, AIOps, data protection, data analytics and networking/SASE.
