The new law legally mandates employers to provide “reasonable accommodations” to pregnant and postpartum workers. + It took effect on July 4, 2023. + Under the new law , pregnant workers will have longer breaks and shorter hours. Employers must provide them with time off for medical appointments and recovery after childbirth. + In addition, pregnant workers should not be assigned heavy lifting tasks or exposed to chemicals. + The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible for enforcing the law .
