Oh hey! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for the WIRED Games newsletter, isn't it? I've been away for a few days, but some of that was spent shooting and slashing enemy mechs in Armored Core VI. Yup, I'll have some more thoughts for you soon, but suffice it to say I've had a little time with the game. And while it's not my first Armored Core title, it's the first one I've played with any seriousness, and it's fast, furious, missile-blasting fun. But it's not the only thing I—and other folks here—have been playing that you'll want to hear about. Hang tight, that's on its way to you soon. First up this week, though, check out Medea Giordano's review of Scream: The Game, a tabletop game based on the movie franchise of the same name. The best part of the game is that it has an app component that works in real time with the tabletop version, so you can get a call from Ghostface while you're trying to figure out your next move. It's a lot of fun if you're a fan of the movies. Did you catch that Meta's upcoming VR headset, the Quest Pro 3, leaked in a video last week? A full unboxing video is waiting, if you want to see it. The Quest Pro 3 looks a lot like the promos we saw back in June when the company unveiled it, right before Apple dominated the news cycle with the Apple Vision Pro. There's no official release date, but Meta Connect is next month, so we'll probably get more details then. Have you ever wanted to have a conversation with one of your favorite fictional characters? You wouldn't be alone: The explosion of generative AI tools has opened the door to a world of chatbots trained to interact with users as if they were specific characters from popular TV, movie, game, and anime franchises. Sure, that means you can chat with a character as if they were your best friend, but the ability to program them to behave any way you want can also lead to some Thorny Issues for IP holders and fans. Next up, if you want to add flare to your living room gaming setup, Nena Farrell just reviewed the Nanoleaf 4D Kit and gave it an impressive 9/10. It's a light strip and camera combination that will color-coordinate the lighting based on what you're watching or doing on TV, like playing your favorite games. Plus, it's easy to install and can be controlled from your phone. Finally, a couple of quick updates from our Gear Team: Parker Hall just updated our roundup of the best TVs, along with some Helpful Buying advice. Some great new models were just added, so before you pick up that Nanoleaf 4D kit, check out the TV roundup. Finally, Julian Chokkattu just updated our list of the gear you need to make great videos at home, so if you're a streamer looking for a more professional setup, be sure to check that out too. Now then, I have edits for some stories coming out later this week that you won't want to miss. Remember to head over to WIRED Games to see our latest coverage, and you can always get in touch with us at [email protected]. See you next week! |
