Manipur CM, N Biren Singh finally gives up after his month-long struggle to play down the unrest that has gripped the North-Eastern State of Manipur. The Manipur Violence, which hardly seems to have ceased, even by the minutest of proportions, had the ruling Government in the State and Center in dire straits. Multiple visits by the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah and his meeting with the State Government members and the rebels had failed to yield any constructive results as yet.

The Opposition parties were quick to jump in and cash in on the failure of the Government to restore peace and stability in the State as they had the ruling party on the backfoot as things turned more and more violent with time including the massive fire set by the rebels in the State Minister’s house.

Manipur CM resignation

Media sources claim that the Manipur CM, N Biren Singh is likely to put forward his resignation from the post of Chief Minister today. Sources say that he is likely to meet Governor Anusuiya Uikey for the same today afternoon. However, the supporters of the Manipur CM are said to have gathered near his house with the urge to stay put in his position.

Rahul Gandhi meets victims of Manipur violence

Rahul Gandhi is said to be visiting the victims of the Manipur violence in the relief camps of Moirang and meeting them. It is also reported that he might also be meeting a few like-minded leaders of the State to put up a United Front for the state to counter the unrest as well. The leaders are said to be from the United Naga Council as well as leaders from the Civil Society in Imphal.

Rahul Gandhi’s visit had been condemned by BJP leaders like the Assam CM, Himanta Biswa Sarma, who says that he should have stayed away from visiting the State since he won’t be able to resolve the problem or diffuse the tension.
