Odeon Theatre to host Hungarian Theatre Festival in Bucharest – BukFeszt, September 27

Odeon Theatre to host Hungarian Theatre Festival in Bucharest – BukFeszt, September 27 – October 2

The second edition of the Hungarian Theatre Festival in Bucharest – BukFeszt will take place from September 27 to October 2 at the Odeon Theatre in Bucharest, according to a press release sent to AGERPRES.

The event is an initiative of the Association of the Hungarian Theatre Union MASZIN, in collaboration with UNITER. The member theatres of the Association are the Hungarian State Theatre „Csiky Gergely” of Timisoara, the Szigligeti Theatre in Oradea, the Teatrul de Nord, the „Harag Gyorgy” Theatre Group of Satu Mare, the „Csiki Jatekszin” Theatre of Miercurea Ciuc and the „Tomcsa Sandor” Theatre of Odorheiu Secuiesc.

The good experiences that the organisers had at the first BukFeszt edition are the motivation for continuing this initiative in the coming years. One of the most important objectives of the founding institutions is to focus on the cultural needs of the Hungarian minority. The BukFeszt Festival aims to offer a diversified cultural programme with high aesthetic values for the large ethnic Hungarian community in the capital, the press release points out.

During the five days of the festival, the organisers will present seven important performances from their repertoire, namely „Exit” by Matei Visniec, directed by Zakarias Zalan, a production of the „Tomcsa Sandor” Theatre of Odorheiu Secuiesc; „Caravaggio” by Visky Andras, directed by Visky Andrej, production of the Hungarian State Theatre „Csiky Gergely” of Timisoara; „Six characters in search of an author” by Luigi Pirandello, directed by Anca Bradu, production of the Theatre „Tomcsa Sandor” of Odorheiu Secuiesc; „Le Schmurz” by Boris Vian, directed by Gyorfi Csaba, production of the Szigligeti Theatre, Nagyvarad Ensemble, Oradea; „Magyarosaurus Dacus” by and directed by Gianina Carbunariu, production of the Szigligeti Theatre, Oradea; „Fiddler on the Roof” by Sheldon Harnick, Jerry Bock, Joseph Stein, directed by Erwin Simsensohn, production of the „Csiki Jatekszín” Theatre in Miercurea Ciuc; „My Fair Lady” by Frederick Loewe, Alan Jay Lerner, directed by Andrei Serban, production of the „Harag Gyorgy” Theatre of Teatrul de Nord from Satu Mare.

Another important goal of the organisers is to promote the member theatres, to connect their institutions more intensively to the national theatre network, to present interesting shows from the repertoire, shows that, due to geographical distance, many theatre critics have not been able to reach, so the work of these minority theatres, often isolated, loses a lot in terms of presence on the cultural map of Romania, the press release shows.

For the Bucharest audience the performances will be presented with subtitles in Romanian.

The event is funded by the Department for Interethnic Relations and the Comunitas Foundation.

Tickets are available on the Odeon Theatre website.
