On the beat: PMLN launches new song for Nawaz Sharif’s homecoming

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is all set to return to Pakistan after four years of self-imposed exile. The atmosphere is electric, filled with anticipation and excitement among his supporters, many of whom see his return as a symbol of optimism for the country’s political landscape.

Nawaz Sharif will arrive at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, where he will be greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of supporters, party workers, and well-wishers.

His daughter, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, shared her emotions, encapsulating the euphoric feelings many Pakistanis share: “Welcome back my leader. Your motherland awaits you Insha’Allah.”

Nawaz Sharif

Nawaz Sharif was born on December 25, 1949, in Lahore, Pakistan. He hails from a prominent industrial and business family. He completed his education in Pakistan and later pursued further studies in the United Kingdom. He holds a degree in law and finance from the University of Punjab and the University of Cambridge.

Nawaz Sharif’s political career began in the 1980s when he joined the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N). He was elected as the Chief Minister of Punjab in 1985 and served in that capacity for two terms. His tenure as Prime Minister began in 1990, and he has held the position three times, serving a total of three non-consecutive terms. He is known for his economic reforms, including the privatization of state-owned enterprises and infrastructure development projects during his terms in office.

Nawaz Sharif’s political career has been marked by numerous challenges and controversies. He has faced legal battles, corruption allegations, and multiple stints in prison. His political fortunes have seen significant highs and lows, but he remains a polarizing figure in Pakistani politics.

After being convicted of corruption charges in 2018, Nawaz Sharif chose to leave Pakistan for medical treatment and has been in self-imposed exile for four years. His return to the country is a significant event in the political landscape, with his supporters hoping for a comeback to active politics.

Nawaz Sharif’s return is expected to shake up Pakistan’s political scene. His party, the PML-N, has a considerable following, and his return could potentially reinvigorate their political influence. However, it also comes at a time of increased political polarization and challenges for the country.
