Greta Thunberg was apprehended during a Fossil Free London demonstration in which she joined fellow activists outside the InterContinental Hotel on Park Lane, where oil executives were convening.

The protesters aimed to obstruct access to the hotel by occupying the entrance area. Fossil Free London posted on social media: “Breaking – Greta Thunberg has just been apprehended.” Images circulating on social media depicted the 20-year-old activist being escorted by law enforcement officers and placed in a marked van.
The Metropolitan Police stated that they had imposed conditions on the activists under Section 14 of the Public Order Act to prevent significant disruption and had requested them to relocate from the road to the pavement. However, a number of protesters did not comply, leading to six arrests for obstructing the highway, 14 arrests for Section 14 violations, and one for criminal damage.
