Junaid Safdar announces divorce from wife Ayesha – End of marriage takes Pakistan by surprise

Junaid Safdar, the son of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz, has announced his divorce from his wife, Ayesha. The dissolution of their marriage has sent shockwaves through Pakistan, leaving many astonished by this unexpected development.

The news of diversity broke on the social media platform Instagram.

In a grand celebration of familial joy, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz and party leader Hamza Shahbaz took to the stage to sing at the wedding event of Maryam Nawaz’s son, Junaid Safdar, in Lahore. The wedding, held in 2021, has been making waves on social media as video clips of the prominent politicians-turned-singers surfaced.

“It was nice. This is how it normally happens in Pakistan. What is there to object to it? I think it’s perfectly okay,” Maryam Nawaz remarked in defense of her participation in the musical festivities.

Videos circulating on social media captured Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shahbaz singing popular Bollywood songs, including ‘Chura Liya Hai Tum Ne Jo Dil Ko’ and “You stole the heart” during the ceremony. Their performance was met with enthusiasm from the wedding guests, who praised their musical talents.

The groom, Junaid Safdar, had previously tied the knot with Ayesha, the daughter of former Ehtesab Bureau head Saifur Rehman, in London in August 2021. However, due to their names being on the Exit Control List (ECL), his parents, Maryam Nawaz and Muhammad Safdar Awan, had not attend the wedding in London. Now, months later, multiple events have been organized in Pakistan to celebrate the marriage.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry, a political rival of PML-N, shared his thoughts on the singing performance, saying, “We only have political differences with them, and our only objection is that they should not spend our money on wedding events. They should return our money.”

Responding to the comments, Maryam Nawaz clarified that her son’s wedding was a private family affair. “I, like all mothers, deserve a chance to celebrate the occasion without attracting political commentary. I humbly request the media and everyone else to respect the family’s right to privacy. Thank you,” she said.

The wedding celebration continues to attract attention, not only for the musical performance by Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shahbaz but also for the lavish and extravagant nature of the festivities.
