TTP attacks designed to strain Pakistan-Afghanistan relations: Jilani

In an exclusive interview with Turkish TV channel TRTWorld, Pakistan’s Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani discussed various aspects of Pakistan’s foreign policy and its stance on regional and global issues.

Foreign Minister Jilani expressed concerns over terrorist attacks carried out by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), emphasizing their objective of sowing discord between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He reiterated Pakistan’s desire to see a stable and prosperous Afghanistan and called for action against terrorist organizations, particularly the TTP.

Jilani spoke optimistically about Pakistan’s investment climate, anticipating visits from representatives of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and other nations for the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for investment. He highlighted the establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) to attract foreign investment, with a keen interest from GCC countries.

The Foreign Minister underscored Pakistan’s close cooperation with GCC countries and Saudi Arabia, spanning various sectors including the economy and defense. These nations are regarded as vital partners for Pakistan.

FM Jilani expressed confidence in the government’s reform initiatives, expecting them to contribute to political and economic stability in Pakistan. He also noted the ongoing democratic process in the country.

China was acknowledged as a significant partner for Pakistan, with Jilani highlighting the importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) within the Belt and Road Initiative. He attributed CPEC to Pakistan’s development.

Pakistan’s stance on UN Security Council membership extension was reiterated, emphasizing the importance of criteria and democratic processes. Jilani criticized India for violating UN Security Council Resolutions, particularly in the context of Jammu and Kashmir, and called for their implementation, including a free and fair plebiscite.

The Foreign Minister expressed concerns about the situation in Kashmir, describing it as a “prison” with severe human rights violations. He urged the international community to take notice of these issues.

Pakistan’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict was clear: advocating for peaceful negotiations rather than war. Jilani highlighted the economic crisis and shortages resulting from the conflict’s prolonged nature.

In this comprehensive interview, Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani shed light on Pakistan’s position on various critical issues, underlining the country’s commitment to regional stability and international cooperation.
