Narendra Modi receives letter, threatening ‘Suicide’ attack

After a letter threatening a ‘suicide’ attack during Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s expected visit to Kerala, security agencies are making stricter arrangements. 

Modi who is scheduled to visit Kerela reference to which, BJP’s office in Kerela has received a letter threatening a possible “suicide attack”. The letter reportedly reached the office of India’s ruling party on April 17. Upon receiving the letter, the BJP handed it over to the authorities after which security agencies are working to beef up security in the region.

A terror alert has also been issued in the state and security tightened in various places. According to reports, the letter was allegedly written by a man named Joseph Jani who has been detained by the agencies and is in their custody.

The Indian PM is scheduled to reach Kochi on 24 April where he will participate in a road show after which he will address a youth rally. Then he will meet with heads from nine churches and spend a night in Kochi before traveling to the state capital, the next morning. There the PM will inaugurate the first Vande Bharat Express and visit the Central Stadium to inaugurate other projects. During the visit, Modi will also address a public gathering in the afternoon on the same day.

According to the security officials, although Modi’s visit is for only two days the schedule is extensive. With reference to Modi’s security, recommendations based on 49 pages have been prepared. However, a major flaw in this was the leak of the report, which now has security agencies working afresh on Modi’s security. On the other hand, a secret report from the Kerala Police has mentioned the presence of terrorist and anti-national forces in the state.
