How Unrealistic Beauty Standards Are Killing Self-esteem

How Unrealistic Beauty Standards Are Killing Self-esteem

A thin waist, glass skin, fair complexion, plump lips– these are all just Beauty Standards set by a society that is never happy with what the world has to offer. These Unrealistic Beauty Standards come from fictional characters, and I am not saying that it’s a sin to look pretty, but it certainly isn’t an angel’s work to put other women down.

We, as strong women, should not let others dictate whether we should love ourselves or not. We need to overcome this pattern and rebuild our crushed self-esteem from scratch, and this is how;

Accepting Yourself

The first and foremost step in self-love is self-acceptance. Until and unless you accept yourself, others are going to keep pointing out the flaws in you and you will keep sulking. Accept your flaws proudly and tell the world that that is what makes you, you and that you’re proud of it.

Find What You Love

Indulging yourself in activities that you love is a great way to keep you away from negative thoughts and self-doubt. Following your passion will not only clear out the bad thoughts but will also build up your self-esteem and steer you away from the toxic demands of society.

Get Away From Social Media

Social media is one of the top platforms that set Unrealistic Beauty standards for women. Instagram models, influencers, supermodels, actresses, etc.– they all lead a fake life on the internet that sets these toxic standards and brings down your self-esteem.

A social media detox is a great way of building back your confidence as it will keep you away from negativity and self-doubt and gives you time to work on yourself!

Self-Help Books

Building up your confidence and self-esteem might be a daunting and time-taking task but it is a very important one. Self-help books make the journey easier for you as they provide tips and tricks to overcome your fears, anxiety, and complexes.

Self-help books are easily available at bookstores and they are a great source of help for people who need the motivation to learn to accept themselves. Since self-love is so important, self-help books are important for a person to have, especially if they suffer from depression and anxiety. These books help in identifying how you can find happiness and contention within yourself without having to prove anything to anyone!

Nourish Your Soul

Stop worrying about your stretch marks and your thigh gaps and start focusing on the deep holes left in your soul because of these unrealistic beauty standards.

Real happiness and satisfaction come from within and unless your soul feels happy and satisfied, no amount of physical beauty will make you look at yourself and say that you look gorgeous. But if your soul is satisfied and happy, it will reflect on your face and all the worldly beauty will start seeming insignificant to you.
