Can You Shampoo And Comb Dreadlocks?

What Are Dreadlocks?

Dreadlocks are one of this century's most wanted and confidently acquired hairstyles. The people from Jamaica and Namibia wore them in 3000 BCE and then they continue till today.

Dreadlocks are a one-of-a-kind and fashionable way to wear your hair, and they may be a representation of culture, religion, or just personal preference.

In dreadlocks, people twist or backcomb their hair strands until they form like ropes.

Can You Comb Dreadlocks?

The straightforward answer to this question is, YES! Dreadlocks can be combed but it is not like people with free or natural hair.

People with dreadlocks don’t comb out their locs on a regular basis. Some comb their locs after months, some after years. It depends on what type of locs you have and what stage of it you are on.

If your dreadlocks are very fresh, you can easily comb them out. However, if your locs are more than six months old, it’s far less probable that you will be capable of combing them out without damaging them. The reason behind this is, the hair in dreadlocks will tend to matt and coil together as time passes.

How To Comb Dreadlocks?

The main point of combing your locs is to open them, comb them and tie them once again. Let me tell you how…

  • Before combing out your locs, wash and condition your hair. Allow as much moisture as possible to be retained by your hair.
  • Apply your preferred leave-in conditioner after sectioning your hair.
  • Pick your loc from the bottom up using the pointed end of your rat-tail comb. To keep the hair moisturised, add water.
  • Whether you trim your own hair or get it done by a professional, ensure the damaged ends are removed.
  • The final step depends on you, loc them again or slay a curly head.

Can You Shampoo Your Dreadlocks?

Shampooing your dreads is a common thing, babe! THEY NEED CLEANLINESS!

Well, if you have new dreads you can wash them once every two weeks. Whereas, if you have mature dreadlocks you can wash them once a week.

How To Shampoo Dreadlocks

Got your answer? Now, let me tell you how you can shampoo your dreads.

  • Pour shampoo into your hands and make foam.
  • Massage this foam on your scalp and each loc gently. DON’T MESS UP THE LOCS!
  • Rinse thoroughly—the most crucial step. You have to remove all the shampoo properly from your scalp and strand. A hand shower would help you.
  • It’s time to apply the conditioner. Apply it, leave it for 3 minutes and again rinse your dreads thoroughly.
  • Squeeze your dreads to remove water. Wrap them in a towel.
  • DO NOT USE A HAIRDRYER! Let your dreadlocks dry naturally.
