Ad Astra Movie Review

“Ad Astra” is a science fiction Movie coming out in 2019 that stars Brad Pitt and is directed by James Gray. The movie is set in the near future and follows scientist Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) as he goes on a mission to find his lost father (Tommy Lee Jones), who went missing years ago while looking for alien life near Neptune. “Ad Astra” is a beautiful movie that shows the vastness and loneliness of space in a beautiful way. The photography, production design, and special effects all work together to create a realistic and engaging future world. Director James Gray does a great job of making people feel alone and claustrophobic by showing how big space is and how small spaceships are. Review

Story:

The plot centers on Roy McBride (played by Brad Pitt), an emotionally unavailable astronaut. He obtains a visit to Mars and attempts to speak with his renowned father, whom Roy mistook for dead. However, there is more to the idea. The real issue is that his father is suspected of being responsible for the power surges that are endangering human survival. This is why Roy gets chosen for the top-secret operation. So it’s not only because of his calm demeanor but also because of his father, Clifford McBride, who began a mission three decades ago.

To be more exact, this gomovies film may be classified as a brooding sci-fi thriller. Although this film has some dramatic sequences that will make your pulse race, it also carries the weighty topic of the protagonist’s emotional journey. Ad Astra is not a joyful sci-fi adventure film; rather, its action scenes illustrate the catastrophe that we as humans have caused.

Star Performance

Speaking about the main character, Roy, Brad Pitt’s performance as Roy is easily one of the best of his career. One can easily tell that a lot is going on under the surface, and when he does get passionate, it gives him energy and is very strong. It seems as if you are in the moment with the character. But there isn’t much time spent on other personalities, and they aren’t shown off much. So, it’s basically all Brad Pitt, and we go along with him on his mental journey. Some of the supporting roles were played by great actors like Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, Ruth Negga, and Liv Tyler.

Final Word

The movie, as a whole, was a fascinating piece. It has a bit of that cold, classic sci-fi feel to it, which is really nice and makes it stand out for people who love movies. It also has beautiful photography by Hoyte van Hoytema, who also worked on Nolan’s Interstellar, Dunkirk, and many other well-known films. The shots look very real and show how little CGI was used, which is unusual these days. They also did a great job showing the technology of the future, which looked almost real.

Overall, it’s a beautiful film that stays with you for a while after you’re done watching it. If you like space and sci-fi movies, they connect you on a personal level and make you think. Must-watch!
