Facebook Is Bringing Poke Feature Back

Meta is bringing back the Poke feature on Facebook on its 20th birthday. Recently, Neowin noticed a very old Poke feature on Facebook.

According to a recent post published on TechCrunch, “Meta, Facebook’s parent company, is the reason behind it.”

Pokes have been a part of Facebook feature since the platform’s launch back in 2004, when it was only available to very limited regions. In 2012, Facebook again introduced Pokes app for iOS, which was continued just only 15 months and shut in 2013.

The Poke feature was best for those who liked to tease their best friends, but it was also annoying for many users. Eventually, the Poke feature didn’t get popularity, but it was never dead. Users can’t find it anymore, and might not have the exact way for years.

Now, Meta is trying to regain its popularity with new changes and updates added to the platform. One significant change was finding the Poke button when searching for existing friends.

The younger users, between 18 to 29 years, are mostly responsible for the surge of this feature. A good news for them is that Facebook relaunching the feature on its 20th birthday. Users can now find a “Poke” button under show up friends in search results.

A spokesperson for Meta wrote in an email, “We know poking has strong network effects, but we didn’t expect poking to grow so rapidly after these changes, We didn’t announce anything about poking at the time either.”
