‘Sweet Magnolias’ recap: Everything to remember from Season 2

At the beginning of the season, farmer Jeremy (played by Chace Anderson) and Dana Sue’s romance is passionate and intense. However, her estranged husband Ronnie (played by Brandon Quinn) is always lingering in the background, hoping to reconnect.

Dana Sue realizes that she needs to remain legally married to Ronnie so she can take on another investor for her restaurant and not risk losing it. But Helen presents an alternative idea: her boyfriend, Cal (played by Justin Bruening), could invest in the restaurant and become her partner, freeing her from being tied to Ronnie. Dana Sue is initially taken aback but later accepts the proposal.

Ronnie, in the end, weakens Dana Sue’s resolve for safety. They decide to give their marriage another chance, and Ronnie goes back home.

However, the couple’s old issues don’t just disappear, and Ronnie suggests they seek therapy to properly address their problems.

Helen experiences both love and loss

Helen Madayi tells Dana Sue that she’s pregnant but has no plans to inform her father, her ex-boyfriend Ryan (Michael Shenefelt), because she has made it clear that she has no interest in starting a family with him.

Sadly, Helen had a miscarriage, but she finds comfort in her friends and Eric (Dion Johnstone), with whom she has been flirting.

As they get closer, Eric learns that he lost his wife and child many years ago, and Helen shares her desire to pursue fertility treatments and start her own family. She explains that going through this process doesn’t guarantee that she will have a relationship with him, but she fully supports the idea.

Ryan returns at the end of the season, wanting to talk to Helen. She’s surprised when he says he’s had a change of heart and now wants children. He doesn’t mention the miscarriage.

When Ryan suddenly proposes to Helen, she is taken aback, and we’re left wondering what she will say.
