Digital Signature Still Needs to be Strengthened , Digital signatures have great potential in the midst of the current development of Indonesia’s digital economy. However, along with the potential, there are also risks that must be answered immediately by increasing the standardization of digital signatures.

Seeing the growing use of this technology, Tony, Deputy Director of Basel & International Banking, OJK’s Banking Research and Regulation Department, explained that electronic signatures are often used, especially in the context of Know Your Customer.

One of the requirements for Know Your Customer is that financial service providers are required to request signature specimens from their customers. However, although OJK has called for the implementation of the use of digital signatures to ensure the security of digital transactions, standardization is still needed that can strengthen this service.

One of the parties that has the authority to issue signatures based on electronic certificates is VIDA. To mitigate digital security risks, VIDA also applies standards to ensure the protection of user data.

“We continue to comply with the regulations set by the Ministry of Communication and Information. This is not only a requirement but also an investment and the way we run our business to provide the best digital signature and e-Know Your Customer (e-KYC) services,” said Chaerany Putri, VIDA’s SVP Government Relations.

Currently, OJK emphasizes that the public does not need to worry when they want to use digital signatures in the financial sector. Because they already have a clear legal umbrella.

“For the use of digital signatures and digital certificates in order to ensure the security of digital transactions, and also to guarantee the principle of non-repudiation . Therefore, we have asked banking players to carry out a verification process or due diligence ,” said Tony.

In the midst of high penetration of digital services, OJK calls on financial service institutions to continue to improve their technological capabilities and talents in providing services that can provide a sense of security.

This needs to be done so that the technology is able to become the answer for digital services that continue to grow by providing a sense of security for its users.
