Indian shooters got two more gold medals at the Asian Games 2023 on Wednesday morning, taking India’s gold medal tally increased to 5 at the Asian Games 2022.

In 50m rifle 3-position, Sift Kaur Samra shot a world record score of 469.6 to clinch the gold while another Indian shooter Ashi Chouksey won the bronze medal in the event.

Earlier, the triumvirate of Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh and Rhythm Sangwan clinched the the gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol team.

Manu Bhaker and Esha Singh are competing in the individual event too.

The men’s skeet team won a bronze medal too.

Earlier, the Indian equestrian dressage team won gold at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 on Tuesday, taking India’s gold medal to three on Day 3 of the Games.

This was India’s maiden podium finish in the event at the Games. The team featuring Sudipti Hajela, Divyakriti Singh, Hriday Chheda and Anush Agarwalla finished with a score of 209.205, pipping China and Hong Kong who completed the podium.

All four Indian contestants have qualified for the individual event final, that will happen today.

Neha Thakur opened India’s medal account on the day with a silver in sailing

Thakur placed second in the girl’s dinghy event, taking India’s overall medal tally at the Asian Games to 12 earlier on Day 3.

India had a rather uneventful start on the third day of the Asian Games, as we missed out on medals in shooting and fencing so far.

How the Sailing event is judged

In sailing, the competitor’s lowest score from all the races is deducted from the total points to calculate the net score. The participant with the lowest net score is declared the winner.

In the girls’ dinghy ILCA-4 category, there were a total of 11 races, and Neha accumulated a total of 32 points. Neha’s least favorable performance was in the fifth race, where she earned five points, resulting in a net score of 27.

Divyansh Singh Panwar and Ramita lost closely to Korea (18-20) in the bronze medal match of 10m air rifle mixed event, while star fencer Bhavani Devi faced a 7-15 defeat in the women’s sabre quarterfinals to China’s Shao Yuqi.

The Indian men’s hockey team, however, continued on its goalscoring exploits with a brilliant 16-1 win over Singapore.

Squash Results

India cruised past Pakistan in the women’s squash team event, while the 4x100m medley team also qualified for final in swimming, creating a new Indian record for best timings at the event.

India have so far bagged a total of 19 medals (five gold, five silver, and nine bronze) at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2022.

India wins double gold on Day 2

After securing five medals (three silver, and two bronze) on the opening day of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, India continued their splendid show on Day 2 at the continental event. While few faced defeats, but the Indian women’s cricket team and the men’s 10m Air Rifle team secured gold medals for the country. Apart from the two gold, India added four more bronze medals to the tally taking it to 11.

India at the Asian Games

India is fielding a 655-member Indian contingent at the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China.

The 19th edition of the continental multisport event officially began on September 23 and will conclude on October 8.

The ongoing edition of the quadrennial meet was originally scheduled for 2022 but was postponed by a year due to COVID-19.

At the last edition in Jakarta back in 2018, a 570-strong Indian squad racked up a best-ever Asian Games haul of 70 medals – 16 gold, 23 silver and 31 bronze.

With an increase in the contingent strength, a bump in the medals count is also expected.

Over the years, athletics have accounted for the majority of India’s medals at the Asian Games – 254 from a total of 672. Track and field events will once again be the focus at Hangzhou, with India fielding 68 athletes, the country’s largest contingent in any sport.

The Indian athletics squad in Hangzhou features top names like men’s javelin throw ace Neeraj Chopra, the reigning world, Olympic and Asian Games champion, Commonwealth Games men’s 3000m steeplechase silver medallist Avinash Sable and women’s hurdles sensation Jyothi Yarraji.
