The 50th edition of a popular pub Guide has been published and features more than a dozen new Surrey sites on its pages. The Good Beer Guide 2023 reviews more than 4,500 pubs across the UK and offers a drinking guide to the best pints in a variety of styles of pubs to suit individual tastes, from the traditional to the more modern.
The annual compendium of ale houses is assembled by thousands of independent volunteers and helps identify trends and themes both locally and nationally. For the new 2023 edition, there are 70 pubs in Surrey included and 15 of these are new entries.
Locations for all the pubs span the breadth of the county and feature The King’s Head and the Rodboro Buildings, in Guildford, to Herbert Wells, in Woking, and Hop Blossom, in Farnham.

Surrey’s best pubs, according to Good Beer Guide 2023
Richmond Arms, Godalming
A traditional and unspoilt locals’ pub at the southern end of Godalming’s High Street – handy for buses and thestation. The main bar at the front has maroon half panelling and a fireplace at each end and thepublic bar to the rear has a separate entrance.

Oxted Inn, Oxted
The only pub in New Oxted, this small purpose-built Wetherspoon pub is adjacent to the railway station. Oxted is on the Greenwich Meridian and the interior is decorated with more than 20 clocks showing the time in various parts of the world.

George, Staines
A welcome return to the Guide for this two-storey, town centre Wetherspoon pub built in the 1990s. The spacious downstairs bar with its mixture of tables and booths is always busy; a quieter bar is upstairs.

Hogs Back Brewery Shop & Tap Room, Tongham
In rural Surrey, nestling under the Hogs Back ridge, the Tap Room is a converted kiln. Tables can be booked in advance but walk-ins are also welcome. Two regular beers are supplemented by seasonal specials and real Somerset cider in bottles.
