How to verify your Signal account

How to verify your Signal account

Since the beginning of time, we as individuals have had the necessity to stay connected between communities. As we’ve been evolving, we’ve had to learn that communication is important too for both ourselves and for innovation.

So, it’s really not surprising that the human mind has found ways for communication even at a distance. We started with paintings and carrier pigeons, moved to telegraph and radio Signal, and now we’re in the smart devices’ era.

We can send messages, make phone calls and send emails from anywhere in the world with a few taps on the screen of our smartphone, and that’s a great tool that we as humans should take advantage of. That’s why apps that make this process easier are being used and developed. Apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Wire, and Signal are some of the few that specializes in messaging services. The latest one reached 105 million total downloads in January 2021.

Signal is a free open-source software that uses phone numbers for its encrypted voice, video calling, and instant messaging service. It allows both international and local video and voice calls free of charge, through Wi-Fi or mobile data. On Android, users can make Signal the default SMS and MMS app, that way being able to text through the app to people that don’t have it. This definitely is a big pro that most companies in this field don’t have. It also has the feature, for some countries, of a crypto wallet, where users can store, receive and make payments while on the app.

This app also has few features targeted at users’ security. For one, all messages are end-to-end encrypted. All the information is stored in the phone and not on Signal’s servers, it uses key fingerprints and QR codes to verify the identities of the people you’re messaging to, it blurs people’s faces to protect their identity, and it also allows setting timers on messages.

However, not everything can be perfect for the app. Signal requires a phone number in order to sign up for the app, and only one number per device will be accepted. This definitely is a reason for users-to-be to back up from signing up to Signal, given that having your real number online can increase the risk of identity theft or being scammed. So what to do in this case? Getting a temporary number would be the best choice!

In this guide you’ll learn how to verify your Signal Account without using your real number, keeping your data and privacy safe. This guide is meant for people living in the US, so if you don’t live there, now it’s the time to get a VPN or a residential Proxy to change your IP address, and come back and follow this guide. We’ll be waiting for you!

Step 1: Go to Signal

First, you need to download the app. To do this, go to your mobile device app store and search for “Signal” on the search bar.

Install the first option.

Now, open the app. You’ll be given two choices: to continue or to restore an account. To create a new account, hit “Continue”.
