NASA All Set To Begin Creating A Giant Telescope For Far Side Of Moon

NASA is currently funding research for a giant radio Telescope that is in a crater on the far side of the Moon.

The NIAC program of the space agency officially known as NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts which is an incubator for the radically futuristic and worldly concept has recently awarded the phase 1 grant.

The space agency as named this device as Lunar Crater Radio Telescope (LCRT). Further, they added that this could be an exciting idea that could lead to a major turning point in the field of research for extraterrestrial intelligence.

According to the description given by Saptarshi Bandyopadhyay, the main objective of the robotics technology that is going on in space agency’s Jet propulsion laboratory is that to capture the tremendous advantages compared to those of Earth-based and Earth-orbiting based telescopes which are currently on the far side of the moon.

From here researchers could observe the entire universe with greater wavelengths than they are normally reflected by Earth. These are greater than 10 m long wavelengths and have to be probed by humans and further enable tremendous scientific discoveries in the field of cosmology.

Additionally, the moon also acts as a physical shield that isolates the lunar surface telescope from radio interference and noises that are from the Earth-based sources during the lunar night.

They also reported that when Earth stands between the sun and the moon, the far side of the moon acts as a low noise radio emission shadow.
