FX’s panel during TCA 2023, Alien fans will be pleased. The network broadcasted that the prequel Series is in active production with scripts locked in. After the first season of Fargo, Noah Hawley is meeting with the production designer to set up a second season. He said that Hawley is currently working on Season 5 of Fargo, but will then start production on “Alien”. The series, which is a prequel of sorts to the original film, will start filming this year after being announced last December during Disney’s Investor’s Day. Fans of the project are now eagerly anticipating new developments and updates. The Alien series is being written by a new writer and will be produced by the original Alien director, Ridley Scott.

What is “Alien” about?

The FX Productions series will be a prequel to the 1979 Ridley Scott classic, focusing on the crew of the Nostromo. The new series will be set 25 years before the events in 1979, with Jones shifting his focus to the ship’s pilot who discovers a derelict alien vessel and its occupants who are more than they seem. The series will not be related to “Prometheus”, as Ridley Scott revealed that the new series is not connected to his film. It will be a prequel, which is different from the original “Alien” in 1979. Jones said, “are people you would meet and it does play with the conceit of who looks like us”. FX Productions chairman John Landgraf added that this new series will have its own identity, with dramatic weight and mystery.

Who will be in the series?

According to rumor, Katherine Waterston is set to star in the new series as Mary Elizabeth. Her character is a trucker and the wife of one of the crew members.

The character was previously portrayed by Sigourney Weaver, who played her in “Aliens”. Another cast member will be Billy Crudup who will be starring as Christopher Oram, Captain of the ship. He is an engineer who is on his first deep space mission. Other cast members will be revealed at a later date when relevant casting choices have been finalized. 

What is the possible plot of the series?

According to rumors, the plot will revolve around Ripley who, before she died in the Alien attack in the original film, was looking for her lost daughter. This storyline will focus on a new crew, working for the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and exploring deep space. Another rumor is that “Alien” will also follow a group of scientists who are investigating an SOS signal from an alien planet. The series will reportedly be set in the same universe as “Prometheus” and “Alien” films. 

How has FX Productions been involved?

FX Productions previously announced that the network was working on a special, “The Alien Legacy Collection”, which will include four all-new films: “Aliens”, “Alien 3”, “Alien: Resurrection”, and the unmade fourth film titled “Alien Vs Predator”. The DVD set, which was officially announced on March 18, will be released on October 7.  The series pilot was written by Jack Paglen and directed by Scott, who will also be the executive producer. The Alien prequel will be produced by Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Justin Falvey, and Darryl Frank through their Scott Free banner. David W. Zucker and Liz Glotzer will serve as executive producers on the series, while Moira Jackson is co-producer. 

What is the release date of the series?

“Alien” will premiere this year, as reported by “New York Post”, on FX. The series was officially announced last December, during Disney’s Investor’s Day in California. Although the release date is not announced yet

Along with the announcement, a USA Today article revealed that Hawley was already writing for the second season of Fargo. FX Productions John Landgraf said that Hawley will be writing the first script for Alien in a few weeks.
