Stallone’s absence means “Creed 3” can repeat the death trick of Rocky Balboa

“The Creed” film won’t have Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, but that could allow the film to use a death trick from Rocky Balboa. The relationship between Michael B. Jordan‘s Adonis Creed and Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Balboa was pivotal to the first two installments of the Creed franchise. However, that will change in “Creed 3”. This is the third movie in the Creed series and it stars Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed. As far as we know, Sylvester Stallone will not appear in this film. Stallone is the original star of the Rocky franchise and played Rocky Balboa in over 7 movies. The movie is set after seven years of the “Creed 2” event. Adonis Creed now lives a happy life with his wife and daughter. Then his childhood friend appears who later turns into an enemy.

Why is Rocky Balboa not in Creed III?

It was reported in April 2021 that Rocky Balboa would take a break from this round. In Creed III, Michael B. Jordan explained that they needed to focus on Adonis Creed instead of Rocky Balboa in the final chapter. “We want to always respect and love what Rocky has built, but we also want to push Adonis’s character into new territory.” However, Michael B. Jordan does not want to sacrifice the relationship between Rocky and Adonis for anything. In Creed III’s script, Rocky and Adonis’s history is still prominent. The fans will see how these two characters meet and develop a special bond. In an interview, Jordan said that “the connection between Rocky Balboa and Adonis Creed is so strong that it will always be there.”

Cast and Characters of the movie

  • Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed
  • Alex Henderson as young Adonis Johnson
  • Tessa Thompson as Bianca Taylor
  • Jonathan Majors as Damian Anderson
  • Spence Moore II as young Damian Anderson
  • Wood Harris as Tony Evers
  • Florian Munteanu as Viktor Drago
  • Phylicia Rashad as Mary Anne Creed

Is Rocky Balboa Dead In “Creed 3”?

We have to imagine that Sylvester Stallone won’t be killed off in Creed 3, because he’s the face of Rocky. Yet, it’s possible given the behind-the-scenes conflict between Stallone and the producer Irwin Winkler. The actor, who played the boxer in the 1976 film Rocky, was expected to lead another Rocky film after Creed 2. Stallone had confirmed that he would not be returning to his role as Rocky Balboa in Creed 3. In 2019, Stallone said he had a new idea for a Rocky movie that centers on his character training a young immigrant fighter.

The excepted storyline of Creed III

Adonis Creed vs his worst enemy & old friend, Damian Anderson, in a fight, to prove who is the best fighter. Adonis is risking everything he has in life – his wife, family, and money – against an opponent with nothing left to lose. Both fighters have a strong passion for winning with their lives at stake.

Release date of the movie

“Creed III” was originally scheduled to be theatrically released on November 23, 2022, by United Artists Releasing in the United States. The release date grossed worldwide, but on July 28 it was postponed to March 3, 2023.

In the conclusion

Indeed, Stallone is not in “Creed III”; however, we have to give the producers and writers of the movie a credit for creating an original story. We are dealing with a series that has every opportunity to be successful without Stallone as Rocky Balboa. We have great actors and actresses who can deliver the right story and make it entertaining. In conclusion, we must ask ourselves if Stallone’s absence can be considered a blessing in disguise or if will fans are disappointed.
