The Mandalorian: Jon Favreau Confirms He’s Working

Fans of the Star Wars franchise were overjoyed when it was announced that Jon Favreau would be writing and executive producing a new live-action Series for Disney’s upcoming streaming service, Disney+. The show, The Mandalorian, is set after the events of Return of the Jedi and follows a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy. This week, Favreau took to social media to confirm that he is currently working on The Mandalorian. The executive producer joined Instagram and marked his first post with a picture of the show’s logo and a caption that read, “Day one. Look forward to entering this new era with you.

This series will be released in February 2022. Also the series has been greenlit for a ten episode Season. The series is set in the aftermath of “Return of the Jedi”. A lone gunfighter emerges from obscurity, having never held a name beyond that of “Mandalorian”, to reap revenge on the Empire. However, his adventures lead him to uncover secrets about his own past.

Also the series will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Allison Shearmur. The show will be executive produced by Vince Gilligan who is also an executive producer for AMC’s Sons of Anarchy.

The series is set after the Battle of Endor, the series will follow a lone Mandalorian gunslinger. The series will explore the breakdown of order following the Emperor’s death and centered on a mysterious loner who lives outside the law and boasts a blaster instead of a lightsaber.

Will there be any familiar characters from the original trilogy?

It is being rumored that Bobba Fett could make an appearance in The Mandalorian. Though all we know for sure is that, Jon Favreau has said that he was amazed when he saw Boba Fett’s costume for Return of The Jedi in person and cannot wait to see it again in Solo: A Star Wars Story.  The second rumor is that the series could be a platform for the rumored  live-action Cassian Andor TV show which will explore Cassian’s connection in the Rebel Alliance and his criminal past. The next rumored character is Sabine Wren.

After the events of Return of the Jedi, much of the galaxy was in shambles. It’s possible that a new regime will take control and destroy all traces of the old regime. Alternatively, it could be possible that many rebelling groups take control.

The series will be directed by Jon Favreau and executive produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Allison Shearmur with showrunner Dave Filoni and executive producer Jonathan Steinberg. The series will also feature a score from the legendary John Williams. The series is being written by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, George Lucas and Kilian Eng.

Is there any news about the cast?

It is confirmed that Pedro Pascal will be playing the lead character for the series in addition to Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito who will reprise their roles from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rogue One respectively. Gina Carano will also star in the series as well.  Gina Carano has already been confirmed for a role, but it is unknown what character she will play. 

What does the show look like?

The scenes of the series were leaked online with some being described as “ridiculous”. Jon Favreau has described the series as, “gritty and action-packed”, much like Star Wars Rebels but with a bit more grit, violence, and realism. He is excited that he will be bringing Boba Fett to life in this way.
