Anthony Bourdain is making his scripted TV debut. The Parts Unknown host, who produced the eight-episode drama Tokyo Vice, based on Jake Adelstein’s memoir of the same name, has landed a straight-to-series order at HBO Max for the hourlong project. The news comes less than a month after an extended trailer was released. A premiere date has not yet been determined though HBO Max formerly known as Project Ray is slated to bow this fall.

How was the writing process for Tokyo Vice? 

The writer worked on the script for more than nine months and sometimes needed help from his wife as well. Since it is required to present an accurate portrayal of the Japanese police, he also took in lots of input from other people involved in the industry.
