Rick and Morty is an American animated science fiction sitcom created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon for Adult Swim. The series follows the adventures of mad scientist Rick Sanchez (voiced by Roiland) and his grandson Morty Smith (also voiced by Roiland), who split their time between domestic family life and interdimensional travel.

About Rick and Morty :

Rick and Morty is a popular adult cartoon on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. It has an average of one million viewers per episode as well as being the number one watched show in its time period for 18-24-year-olds.

The creator Justin Roiland came up with some ideas that were inspired by Back to the Future and Doc and Bharti, which is about a scientist who takes his grandson on crazy adventures with him. He pitched it as an adult show after seeing Family Guy’s success with that demographic.

Release date:

The release date for the sixth season of Rick & Morty has not been announced yet, but it is expected to be on screens in 2022.

Production:

The show is created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon. The writing team includes Tom Kauffman, Ryan Ridley, Wade Randolph, Jessica Gao, Mike McMahan (creator of the Adult Swim cartoon “Eagleheart”), writer’s assistant Sarah Carbiener & Erica Rosbe, as well as freelance writers like Beth Schwartz & Bill Wray.

Revenue:

It will be interesting to see what Adult Swim does in terms of revenue for Rick and Morty season six. While the show is a hit, there are still production costs that need to be covered with advertisements on TV or digital streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video & Hulu. This means more profit from ads or subscription fees paid by viewers watching online compared to watching it on cable TV.

The Starring cast:

Rick Sanchez (Justin Roiland) is the grandson of the scientist Mortimer “Morty” Smith Sr., also voiced by Roiland, who is an alcoholic super-genius scientist and inventor.

The Plot:

Like its predecessor series Family Guy, this show has aired episodes with different themes, including A plot revolving around breast milk after a character becomes lactose intolerant; B plot about “Pickle Rick” where one of the main characters turns himself into pickles to escape prison; C plot that features six alternate versions of the protagonist’s daughter; and plot where one of the characters dies and is replaced with a Rick from an alternate reality.

Rick Sanchez is an interdimensional scientist who left his family because he was fed up with the government chasing him. He lives together with his 14-year-old grandson Morty Smith and helps him to deal with school problems by taking on adventures in different dimensions.

Other plot points include the fact that Rick has moved in with his daughter Beth’s family after getting out of prison where he was incarcerated for supposedly killing a person; this plot point might be addressed more thoroughly in future seasons based on some hints dropped by Harmon about what could happen.

Reviews:

The show has been well received, but critics have pointed out that it leans more towards adults rather than children in its demographic audience because of its violence, dark comedy, sexual themes, and alcoholic references. The series premiere was watched by million viewers when airing on Adult Swim. The episode was down by million viewers from the previous season’s finale, but it was up in viewership since the Season Three premiere, which had.

Ratings:

Ratings for Rick and Morty Season Four are down by, but still staying relatively high at million viewers per episode on average. Reviews for subsequent episodes were generally positiv; reviewss of four episodes at Metacritic gave them an average score of 73 out of 100 (based on four critics).

Expectations:

Fans of the show are expecting plot twists, plot development, and possible plot holes to be closed. With six seasons confirmed by Dan Harmon himself, there is a lot of room for plot progression and character development, which will no doubt satisfy fans as well as intrigue new viewers.
