Burgess Quartermaine, Voight’s daughter and partner detective on Chicago PD. Her promotion to Intelligence has made her a more serious character this season. She also takes charge of the team in Voight’s absence. The rest of Burgess’ team at Intelligence includes Brian Rafferty (Sean Patrick Thomas), who is Voight’s right-hand man and best friend, as well as her boss.

This season, Burgess and her team are trying to figure out the connection between the two murders. The first murder is a young woman who was beaten up in an alleyway off of Michigan Ave., and the second victim’s body was found in a dumpster near Grant Park.

PRODUCTION:

Chicago PD season nine began filming on April 23rd, 2018, in Chicago, Illinois, to premiere this fall on NBC. The show has been renewed for a tenth season which will be the final one of the series if it airs in 2022. The show is a spin-off of Dick Wolf’s other police drama, Chicago Fire; it has been praised for its strikingly realistic portrayal of the day-to-day lives and work styles in law enforcement.

THE STARRING CAST:

  • Jason Beghe (Voight) will be leaving CHICAGO P.D. for the first time in nine seasons to head into retirement, Marina Squerciati (Burgess) is moving up from patrol to take over command of Intelligence, and Jesse Lee Soffer (Jay Halstead) has been promoted to captain over the Intelligence division.
  • While there is speculation that Jay Halstead will be going to the Intelligence Division, Marina Squerciati has been promoted from patrol to take over command of intelligence, and Jesse Lee Soffer (Jay) has been promoted to captain.
  • Other returning cast members include Jon Seda (Detective Antonio Dawson), Tracy Spiridakos (Detective Hailey Upton), Patrick John Flueger (Officer Adam Ruzek), and Elias Koteas (Deputy Superintendent Terry Eiseman).
  • Joe Mande will be joining the cast as Dr. Connor Rhodes in a recurring role, with an option to become a series regular if he is well-received by fans.

EXPECTATIONS:

The stakes are higher than ever before as this tenth season begins. New faces, new crimes, and a whole lot of tension for everyone involved. CHICAGO P.D.’s fifth episode’s ratings were up year-to-year (+39% in total viewers), while its ninth episode was the most-watched on NBC in that time slot since November 2022.

REVIEWS:

With my expectations being high because of this show’s history, I found myself disappointed and unsatisfied with Season Nine so far. The season has never felt as “real” to me as it did before. This is not a fault of the actors or crew; rather, it’s because so much is already “known” about this season that I’m not as interested in finding out what will happen next.
